Publisher's summary
A mysterious stranger known as 'The Wolf' leaves an infant with the sisters of Santo Spirito. A tiny silver key hidden in her wrappings is the only clue to the child's identity and so begins a story as intriguing and beautiful as the city of Florence itself. Belinda Alexandra's new novel, Tuscan Rose, is set in Italy during the time of Mussolini. This richly woven tale of passion, love, longing, witchcraft and magic promises to be everything her readers love and more.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Wonderfully gripping story
Loved how fiction and history blended together so well, but likely would not have purchased this book had the book’s description indicated how detailed the scenes of torture victims were. I realize they were true to the times just not what I usually choose to read. I hope all Belinda Alexander books are not in this kind of gory detail.

Captivating
Loved this story. Not much is written about what happened in Italy before and during the war. The narrator was one of the best I have heard.

Good story in an interesting time.
The setting and time make this interesting and enjoyable. The time is World War II and the setting is Italy from the Italian view point.

This book really is quite good.
I really am so glad I decided on this book. It is narrated wonderfully. It pulled at my heartstrings, an emotional journey.
The story of Rosa is one where you want her to come out unscathed from all she has been through in her life, the injustices and sorrows of a young woman during WWII. I think maybe because my own family had to suffer through the war in Europe at that time, that it touched my emotions so strongly. It can be difficult at times to listen, if you are squeamish, the author was very descriptive when writing about the violence and torture at that time in history. But with that said it is also a tender love story,a story of overcoming the odds, a story of bravery. In the end you feel as if you know these characters and only hope the best for them in their futures.

Title
Loved the book and narrator ... just didn't like the title... too trite... almost didn't even look at it because of the name... sounded like a romance novel from a dime store...
