Publisher's summary

Newly undead shifter-turned-vampire Kita Nekai is coming to grips with the reality that her cat has not awakened since her change. What she needs is a little time to adjust to her new liquid diet and the increasingly complex attraction to her sire, Nathanial. What she gets is a headless harlequin.

With the body count rising, Kita is dragged into a dangerous game of vampire politics. Her involvement draws the attention of an ancient vampire known as the Collector who has a penchant for acquiring the unusual - like a pureblood shifter-turned vampire. Kita still has unfinished business of her own and finds herself deeper in magical debt. It's a bad time to be a kitten who can't slip her skin.

Kalayna Price's debut novel, Once Bitten, earned rave reviews and reached #1 on Amazon.com's "Fantasy Bestseller List." Twice Dead returns readers to a dark, seductive world where magic rules and ancient loyalties collide with modern challenges.

Very heavy

I understand that stories need excitement and momentum - and I enjoy that, but this series is all doom and gloom with no humor or light moments to break up all of the negativity.

I also hope (if I do another one of these stories) that Kita finally gets with the program and begins to embrace being a vampire on some level - it is just annoying at this point.

Can't wait for more book in both her series in 2015. These are fun books and the characters are interesting. Narration is excellent.

It Was The Night

This book was exciting to me because of the detailed structure of people, place and things. falling within the parameters of the genre. which is expected to be dark and gloomy with the loss of hope, love etc. Is it an easy read? no; but it was well written with a taste of some originality within a tired storyline.

Twice Dead

This was the first one in this series that I read. I was confused and almost quit listening to the book because of that. Glad I didn't, it is a great book and once I understood the characters easy to follow.
I would strongly advise anyone new to the series to start with the first one. Now I have the dilemma of deciding to read the first one next or the next one!

Would makea great series!

If you could sum up Twice Dead in three words, what would they be?

Great character interaction!

What did you like best about this story?

That I did not like the main character! Its a good thing when the characters are either loved or hated. The writer has done their job! I hated the main character for being rebellious, whiny, foolish, and troublesome.

What about Piper Goodeve’s performance did you like?

Good job!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither! No extreme reaction, except to the ending when the "judge" shows up! Sequel?

Any additional comments?

Good listening!

Shapeshifters, vampires, magic users, Could You As

Where does Twice Dead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Twice Dead has another world whence come the shifters and this adds a good bit to this story. Kalayna Price is a top notch author in this fantasy genre and I like all of her books. This book is one of my top ten from Audible especially in the fantasy genre.
Piper Goodeve is excellent narrating this story.

What did you like best about this story?

Kita is a very interesting character she is a shapeshifting cat before Nathaniel turns her into a vampire to save her life. She HATES being a bloodsucker and tries to survive by living off wild animals. It doesn't work because she needs a base level of "master" vamp blood and she finds drinking from Nathaniel too intimate. Nathaniel defies the "master of the city" (his brother) for Kita because he obviously loves her. There is a group of scholar magic wielders, necromancers, and everything else you can imagine. You would think it would be confusing but the author works them all in story well.

Which character – as performed by Piper Goodeve – was your favorite?

Kita

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Well worth the time and money if you like fantasy genre.

Dead End

Not the most original Vampire novel. The storyline was uninspiring, the narrator was ok.It was average.Seemed like the characters were going in circles, not really getting any where. The book was also obvious.

Very annoying but love the characters

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes if you had read the first one but hard going due to the ongoing drama after drama and i caught myself rolling my eyes and fast forwarding only to do so again. This got really boring as you just wanted resolution and the story to pick up not another drama to start

Was Twice Dead worth the listening time?

It could have been halved and more enjoyable

Any additional comments?

Great story line, great characters - ruined by the monotony of every turn creating more and more drama which made it feel so negative and never ending. I fast forwarded many times and still would get to a bit and do it again as it just went on and one. I nearly stopped listening on numerous occasions just as so sick of the ongoing story and no resolution. Great book but couldve been halved and been better and less dribbly. Looking forward to next book but hope like heck it doesn't get lost like this one

Definitely a YA urban fantasy

PG-13 style fantasy, complete with the hard headed heroine, that frustrates the reader from start to finish. She's a shape shifter turned vamp, that finds herself with a bullseye on her back with most everyone that she meets. Kitta doesn't want to be a vampire and acts like a spoiled brat most of the time, leading Nathaniel on and making his life miserable by rejecting him and doing as she pleases. Leaves you in a cliffhanger, that doesn't look like it will be resolved since the book was released Aug 2011, and the final book isn't on the shelf yet.

Frustrating

The main character, Kita, is so frustrating I wonder why I bother listening to the book. If I was her vampire master, I would put either myself or her out of my misery. She is always making bad decisions. She never listens. Everything has to be her way. And she has not faith in others. With all that said, Nathaniel, her vampire master, is not much better. He never sits done and explains anything to her. Therefore, she is always breaking vampiric law. She comes close to getting both her and him killed. Of course, I don't understand why Nathaniel does not stand up for himself and her. I don't know if I will continue listening or not. At least, I am experiencing an emotion. I just keep hoping the story get better as the books more on and the character start to grow. Then, that brings me to the question. Will they grow??? I guess you will have to listen like I do to find out.
