2023 Audie Award Winner for Best Short Stories/Collection Audiobook

“Speak your truth.” An icebreaker leads to unintended consequences for two strangers aboard a luxury yacht in this seductively twisty short story by the New York Times bestselling author of The Good Sister.

When Ella boards a sumptuous charter off the coast of Australia, she feels…dread. Her husband, Mac, the social butterfly who makes these wellness retreats so much easier to navigate, is stuck at work, leaving her exposed to the other passengers. Luckily, she forms an instant bond with the charismatic Chloe, a newly single woman salving a broken heart. But as the friendship grows, Ella discovers they share more than the need for an escape, and their devastating connection has the power to forever alter their lives.

Uncharted Waters by Sally Hepworth is part of Getaway, a collection of six stories about dream escapes that take unimaginable, even sinister, turns. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single sitting.

What’s with all the hate?

Personally I liked this book. I don’t really understand all the negative reviews. It was a good story, easy to read, and I liked the characters. The narrator was good as well. Yes there are some LGBTQ elements to the story but I actually liked that it’s not a man and women relationship it’s something different.

all over the place

didn't even mean to download, but listened to it anyway. story jumped all over the place. and didn't jump at points that made sense. I often couldn't understand who was talking. it also didn't make sense. with every meal a weird question, but then they all act like it's been asked before, but you still answer like you didn't know it was coming? very confused by this story. snarky answers for no reason? everyone gets a long, then they dont? this story isn't provided in a presentable way for a listener.

A nice little getaway

A quick listen. Great for a rainy day at the beach! Left me wondering what would happen right up until the end.

Interesting take on a sort-of-thriller

First "thriller" esque book I've red in awhile, was interesting and kept my attention but not a fan of the way the story unfolded.

Pretty good

This was definitely not my normal genre of story but it surprisingly held my interest and entertained me. I absolutely loved the narrator's voice. She has an accent but just enough to make me want to listen yet not enough where I struggled to understand her. Well done!

Not for Me

This story just wasn't for me. It was well-written, and I have to give the author credit for fleshing out characters so well in such a short story. But I didn't like the twist the tale took into "uncharted waters." I stuck with it to the end. After all, it was short, and I'll admit I was curious about how the author was going to wrap it up.

Sorry, I can't give more details as to why I didn't really enjoy it. But there's no way for me to do that without spoilers. So, the reader will need to determine how they feel about this one. I'm sure many will find it fun, maybe even enlightening or empowering. That's great. It just wasn't my jam.

A TWISTY SHORT

Sally Hepworth creates characters who surprise us over and over, and this one was typical. I was extra surprised by this short story. No further comments so as to avoid spoilers.
