About this listen

In this explosive debut novel, W. Aaron Vandiver takes listeners into the South African bush, with its stunning landscapes, its dazzling and deadly wildlife, and its dark underbelly of violence. Against this dramatic backdrop, Under a Poacher's Moon tells an unflinching story of two people who fight desperately to save Africa's wildlife, sometimes with tragic unintended consequences, as they search for passion and meaning in a dangerous and unpredictable world.

Anna Whitney travels to Mzansi, a remote safari lodge located deep in the wilds of South Africa, hoping to get as far away from home and her troubled life as possible. The perilous beauty of the land captures her imagination, but when she hears the haunting late-night cries of an injured rhino, her escapist fantasies collide with brutal reality. She and Chris, a safari guide wrestling with his own secret demons, find themselves embroiled in a war on Africa's wildlife.

They are pulled into a struggle that brings them face-to-face with shocking acts of violence, rogue officials, armed gangs, vicious wild predators, and their own deepest fears. It is a conflict that threatens to destroy them or lead them toward a new and better life together.

Beautiful and Meaningful

A story that captures the complexities and seemingly insolvability of world issues that society faces through one women’s experience on a brief Safari. Like real life, the larger issues are not solved or wrapped up neat, but instead the novel shows what each of us, as individuals, need to focus on in order to make a large impact on the world. Personal growth through experiencing life outside of our comfort and courageously taking on the challenges right in front of us is real journey this novel takes us on.

Back to Africa

Very descriptive and captivating story. If you have never been to South Africa, it will make you feel as if you are there. If you have been, it will take you back there. The author puts the reader in a real world problem. You can begin to relate to the issues facing the animals by the harrowing tales being put in front of you. Although the story is fictional the real world problems it discusses hit home. Thank you.

Great listen on Audible!

Our bookclub read this novel, I had the paperback version but didn't have time to read it. I was able to find ample time to listen through Audible and I am so glad I did. The writing is intriguing enough to keep you interested in the story but the narration through Audible was amazing! The characters were so vivid through their different voices and accurate accents - it truly makes the story come alive. A great listen that will tug at your heart and make you think about the world outside of your day to day activities. Highly Recommend!
