T. L. Hines' mesmerizing debut thriller, one of Library Journal's Top 25 Christian novels of 2006, tells the gripping tale of a troubled man who finds a reason for living while confronting the ghastly face of evil. Jude Allman has actually died and come back to life - three times. Haunted by paranoia and fearful that life has no purpose or meaning, Jude lurks behind locked doors. But when his heightened senses detect immanent death, Jude tries to rescue the captive prey of a fiendish pedophile.

Critic reviews

"The story of Jude's existential crisis and his gradual redemption through the healing power of prayer, forgiveness, good works and the occasional jaw-dropping miracle is compelling." ( Kirkus Discoveries)

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

I've long been a fan of horror/suspense stories, and the dark, creepy undertone of this story is very, very satisfying. Reminds me of an early Peter Straub.
The Christian theme to this novel is well done. No doctrine shoved-down-the-throat, but a gripping supernatural story, which seems eerily plausible. It will come across well to Christians and non-Christians alike.
Be warned: it's very close to a horror novel, or at least a very suspensful thriller. I LOVED it, but some scenes are fairly graphic, espcially the scenes involving the pedophile and the missing children.
The character development is as good as I've read in any novel, the dialog intelligent, and the narrator's voice suits the story well, and gives it a dark edginess.
This is the most suspensful and memorable audiobook I've listened to in over a year. I can't wait for more from this author.

Excellent

Wow! - Nice to hear an author who can include faith in a story that is in the same league as Dean Koontz and Stephen King.

Good book

I was alil worried it would be very religious and try to force feed me that threw out the book but i have to say the author worked the religious part in and the mystery part in very well.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this very much in the end. I had to force myself to stick with the first couple of chapters, but then found the rhythm of the tale and couldn't quit listening. A good suspenseful, keep you guessing story with a spiritual side that was refreshing. I'd like to read more from Mr. Hines.

fan-freaking-tastic

This was just an incredible story. T.L. Hines is now up there in my top 3 with Dean Koontz, and H.P. Lovecraft. Cant wait for his next book.

Great book all the way around!

Would you consider the audio edition of Waking Lazarus to be better than the print version?

I did not read the story, so I do not know the answer to that question.

Which character – as performed by Tom Stechschulte – was your favorite?

Jude

Who was the most memorable character of Waking Lazarus and why?

Frank was pretty memorable, just because I thought I had him figured out, but I was wrong!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book. It has everything that I like in a book. It was suspenseful, the characters were interesting and believeable. There were twists and turns and lots of surprises. There was no foul language that I remember. The only thing I wish that the author would have included is something that a lot of stories that deal with a life after death experience is missing....the truth. I know this was a fiction book, but since it is suppose to be a Christian book, I would have loved for the author to mention the way to heaven...through Jesus Christ and what he did to save humanity. Jesus said, "There is only one way to the Father..and that is by me."

Excellent!

T. L. Himes is definitely a novelist to watch. I absolutely fell in love with this novel’s full cast of expertly developed characters, a plot thick with tension and unpredictable twists and turns. The narrator did the perfect job, somehow he even managed to bring to life a few subtle elements of the story that I missed in the written version.

A definite thumbs-up to both author and narrator, and probably the best audio book I’ve listened to all year!

Edgy, Suspenseful Spiritual Based Thriller 5 Stars

Stechschulte does a first class job bringing T. L. Hines’ suspenseful thriller to life. Excellent work here! I would like to see more of Hines’ books introduced on audio. Not your average Christian writer.

Extremely engaging!

I because so engrossed in the story and attached to the characters that I found myself literally yelling at a fictional character! This is a story that immediately hooks you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The narrator did a wonderful job of giving each character a life of their own.
