Publisher's summary

They came to Earth - Pestilence, War, Famine, Death - four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to Earth, and they came to end us all.

The day Jerusalem falls, Miriam Elmahdy knows her life is over. Houses are burning, the streets run red with blood, and a traitorous army is massacring every last resident. There is no surviving this, especially not once Miriam catches the eye of War himself. But when the massive and terrifying horseman corners Miriam, he calls her his wife, and instead of killing her, he takes her back to his camp.

Now, Miriam faces a terrifying future, one where she watches her world burn town by town, and the one man responsible for it all is her seemingly indestructible “husband”. But there’s another side to him, one that’s gentle and loving and dead set on winning her over, and she might not be strong enough to resist.

However, if there’s one thing Miriam has learned, it’s that love and war cannot coexist. And so, she must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch humankind fall or sacrifice everything and stop him.

Good but not great

The romance felt lazily crafted. I didn’t like how War immediately sensed a connection with Miriam and their love was built from there. He knew nothing about her and yet almost from the start she was exempt from his rules or anger. Felt sloppy.

Cuts Deeply

This series has so far been excellent. They are deep, raw, emotional explorations of love and humanity/“otherness” they are by no means Quick romances. There are struggles of seemingly insurmountable differences of morality and opinion. There are lessons and losses. Each of these two books has made me feel raw at the end. But absolutely satisfied.

Loved War, Miriam was meh

I loved War, and I suppose that’s why I continued on with this story even though Miriam had me grinding my teeth. There was just something about her I didn’t like and couldn’t connect with. Either way, love this series!

Couldn’t Stand Miriam

Loved the first book. Pestilence and Sara were awesome. Love War in this book, but Miriam was so annoying with her holier than thou attitude, immaturity, and over all denseness. Was considering not finishing or going on to the third book, but the story got good at the end. Just wish Miriam wasn’t such an awful character.

<3

Admittedly, I’m only part-way into the book. However, the narration sounds really murky, like it was recorded with a bad microphone. I’m confused, because it’s the same narrator that did the last book, and this wasn’t an issue. I don’t know if audible could run the file through some sort of software to clean it up, but it’s a shame to have something distract from the hard work of such a magnificent author and narrator. I probably listened to Pestilence 3-4 times, and am sure this story will be just as amazing. =) But, a better audio-file would really facilitate the immersive experience in regard to listening to the story.

Another Epic Story!!!

LOVE this author, LOVE this narrator, and LOVE this book!!!!!! What an incredible story of what love is, and the power it wields. This book definitely kept me going, and I'm going to miss these characters, so so much! Laura's writing is so good at bringing her characters to life that I always feel like I know them (as if they were real) by the time I'm done. That, to me, is the mark of an amazing author. When you couple that kind of writing talent with the incredible voice acting of the narrator, it's a match made in heaven. I'm so very sad that I will have to wait for the next installment.

Did not disappoint

Great addition to the series. Similar to the first book but different enough that I was hooked from the beginning. Looking forward to the third and fourth book!

A Warriors Heart to Tame

Miriam Elmahdy is not your typical woman, and these were not usual times. It was the end of days and the fate the world rested in her hands. I loved this book, how the character development flowed, and connections were palpable. This story was not a love story, but the question continuously presented itself, "Will love conquer all?" I enjoyed this story because Miriam had the heart of a warrior but compassion for others and a love for life. She did all she could to support those around her, and at times, that just wasn't enough. How do you conquer a god with followers both dead and alive? Find out in this epic continuation of the Four Horsemen. Now it is a wait for Famine!
