Not Your Typical Vampire Tale

If you go into this book thinking it will be your typical sparkly vampire story, as we often see in those imitating that famous (and infamous) vampire movie and book series, you will be disappointed. However, if you're interested in a unique take on vampire stories, you may find this one interesting. The male vampire in this story is decidedly dark, with a vengeful and violent past. Imagine how it goes when he searches for an intriguing young witch from a family he thought he had wiped off the face of the earth long ago. That's not all, though. While I don't want to give away too many details in case you decide to read or listen to this book yourself, let's just say he has an unexpected metamorphosis that changes their dynamic in a delightfully surprising way. By the way, how non-vampires view vampires in this world is fascinating. Pretty much everyone else, even other supernatural beings, thinks they are no-good, violent creatures, even going so far as to have several derisive terms describing them, like “fangers.” I found this story a bit odd at times, and with the audiobook format, things got a bit confusing here and there. I don't feel like I can wholeheartedly recommend it, but if you are looking for a different kind of vampire story, you may find this one enjoyable.

Captivating

The emotional tension is palpable as Finn faces a tough decision: will he exact vengeance, or can he use Bree’s magic to bring back the love he thought was lost forever? The narrator does an excellent job of portraying Finn’s internal conflict, making his pain and determination feel raw and real.

Bree, as a character, brings intrigue and complexity to the story, and the narrator’s voice work effectively conveys her strength, vulnerability, and mystery. The audiobook’s pacing is gripping, seamlessly blending moments of action with deeper emotional revelations. The world-building is immersive, filled with dark magic, deep secrets, and a haunting sense of fate.

Although this is the second book in the series, it works well as a standalone. If you're new to the Whispers Series, this audiobook is a great entry point, and it will likely leave you eager to go back and explore the first book for added depth. The story's tone will appeal to fans of True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals, with its blend of supernatural thrills, complex relationships, and moral dilemmas.

Disaster

The story continues under even stranger conditions which will evolve it as you read or listen.
I can honestly say that I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, but I'm hoping that with time in the next book that it explodes into something even bigger & better. Time will tell.

Toni Goode is a new author for me but I'm really liking what I've been reading. It's so well written. This world is immersive and that characters are so awesome.

So far this series has been incredible!.
