Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Publisher's summary
As he digs deeper into the investigation, Sloane confronts a law called the Feres Doctrine which prohibits a soldier's family from suing the government for his death. Contested nearly 3,000 times in the past 50 years, the Feres Doctrine has yet to be amended or overturned. Now Sloane is desperate to find a loophole. But as he examines the events that led to James Ford's death, he uncovers disturbing evidence of a powerful enemy playing a very deadly game - one that may put him and his family in dire jeopardy.
Compelling characters, jaw-dropping twists, and a dangerous hunger for justice make Wrongful Death an edge-of-your-seat audio full of hot-button issues and searing courtroom drama.

Early in the morning on August 27, 1996, 20-year-old Scott Dominguez showed up for an ordinary day at the fertilizing plant where he worked. By 11:00 am, he was clinging to life, unconscious and suffocating from toxic exposure to cyanide in a tank that was supposed to contain only mud and water. EPA Special Agent Joseph Hilldorfer was tasked with finding out what really happened on that horrific day in Soda Springs, Idaho, but the answers would not be easily uncovered.

Story

Continuity of characters from previous Dugoni novels.
Loved the broadened character development of previously introduced players…also enjoyed Digoni’s well-developed plots, and the smooth transition between courtroom snd action sequences,

Attorney David Sloane takes on the US government
Wrongful Death is about a member of the Washington state National Guard who was killed during the US war in Iraq. In this case I suggest reading the publisher's summary which does a nice job of setting up the novel. I will add only that the key to potential success of attorney David Sloane is whether the action when the man was killed was part of the war or was in the furtherance of the business interest of a military contractor.
Wrongful Death is a legal thriller, but much of the action and intense suspense is outside the courtroom. Author Robert Dugoni has written a wonderful novel and Dan John Miller's narration is outstanding. As I have written in other reviews Robert Dugoni is one of my favorite authors who never disappoints. Dugoni's newest release in his outstanding Tracy Crosswhite police procedural series titled Close to Home will be released in a few hours.

The second book in the David Sloane series, it uses two hot button issues to create a masterful story -- the feres doctrine (military cannot sue the government) and military contractors, who supply the military with functions not available internally. There are lots of characters and keeping them separate is not easy. The book was well written and uses flash backs to tell some of the story. There seemed to be no useless details and it was quite engaging

Excellent Thriller!
Splendid SPLENDID story. SOOO refreshing to enjoy an adventure having gobsmacking twists and surprises - all believable, with Wonderful characters and no blasphemy or goofy raw sex which are unfortunately pervasive among many (most?) contemporary writers’ practices. Have loved every one of Robert Dugoni’s novels; Wrongful Death IMHO is one of his Best, and Dan John Miller is among my Very fave narrators.
