    Sep 9 2024

Trash on our beaches is a global issue, and the beaches of New Brunswick are not immune to the heavy presence of pollution in our oceans and on our beaches. Challenge yourself to remove trash every time you visit a beach, or organize a community clean-up for your area! You can also get involved with organizations like Nature NB who participate in beach clean-up events and efforts across the province. Follow our social media to stay up-to-date.

In 2022, New Brunswick experienced a much higher than normal occurrence of cases of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. This virus was observed in a variety of birds species, but was most often seen in the Northern Gannet, where hundreds of infected birds were found washing up on beaches all summer.

To learn more about H5N1, visit the Government of Canada website: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/animal-health/terrestrial-animals/diseases/reportable/avian-influenza/latest-bird-flu-situation/status-ongoing-avian-influenza-response
