• Always Tired? Re-calibrating the Nervous System with FUNCTIONAL Breath | Griffin Coombs
    Aug 14 2024

Griffin Coombs runs The North Star Body, an online coaching practice that uses foundational physiology to help people manage their own chronic stress, anxiety, and/or pain. Connect with Griffin Web: https://thenorthstarbody.com IG: https://instagram.com/thenorthstarbody Connect with Alex: https://www.alexandercorey.com Griffin Coombs is a Breath Science Practitioner and movement coach based in Tangier, Morocco. A self-proclaimed "fitness nerd" since 2008, Griffin has explored nearly every corner of the fitness world to some capacity but found himself with chronic back pain, consistently low endurance, and an anxious relationship to exercise. It wasn't until he opened his path of exploration to breath science, biomechanics, and the nervous system that he realized how connected the mind and body are in health, happiness, and performance. In this episode, Griffin Coombs and Alex Corey explore the fundamental aspects of the nervous system that led to Alex's major burnout in 2024 that led him back to breathing when no other health metric was moving the dial on consistent lethargy, lack of energy, and poor sleep. Topics Covered: -The next chapter in Alex's health journey -Fitness through the lens of low self-esteem and shame -When your body doesn't trust you because you're not present -Letting go instead of trying to fix -Polyvagal theory and the functional branches of the nervous system -Trauma and the nervous system -Functional Breathing instead of breathwork -Using breath to come back into your body -Releasing tension -Covering discomfort with stimulants and depressants -Dealing with slowing down in an anxiety driven culture -Re-building capacity using breath and Heart Rate Variability More episodes: https://www.alexandercorey.com/podcast
