  • Summary

  • In this episode, I welcome Barley Massey, the owner of the sustainable arts and crafts shop Fabrications located on Broadway Market in East London.

Born in Snowdonia, North Wales, Barley grew up in a very low impact way and owes her grandmother for teaching her their crafts from a young age. In the 1990s, Barley came to study Textiles at Goldsmith College. She describes living in London as an eye-opening experience for its creativity and multicultural backdrop.

In June 2000, parallel to working in the film and TV industry, Barley opened Fabrications, a shop dedicated to sustainable textiles, crafts and community, a mission that endures to this day.

We talked about her childhood, the "cradle-to-cradle model", second-hand vs vintage clothing, the mission of Fabrications, the journey that led Barley to open her own shop in East London (she describes herself as an "accidental" shopkeeper), her wonderful "Remember Me" project and so much more.
