Good People Good Things

  • Summary

  • Good People Good Things is a podcast which puts the spotlight on exactly that: good people doing good things.

Our guests come from various backgrounds and have various skills set but they all have one thing in common: they are passionate about what they do and they care about making an impact on the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

This podcast is born very simply out of a desire to give some of these good humans a voice because their voice and actions are so inspiring that in my humble opinion, they deserve to be heard.

  • Ep. 11 Stacey DeLooze
    Feb 2 2023

In this episode, I welcome Stacey DeLooze, an accomplished singer songwriter with a voice that often had her compared to Kate Bush.

Born in 1984 in Yorkshire, Stacey grew up under the wings of music. Part of a lineage of musicians on both her mother's and father's side, Stacey went on to study music in Manchester before moving to London, age 19, to do a degree in Music at the London College of Music.

Stacey performed for years as DeLooze, taught as a singing teacher in London schools as well as privately, worked as a music therapist in children's wards at St Mary's and Westminster Hospital and is now expanding her skill set as a reminiscent music therapist in care homes in and around Chesham.

And if that wasn't enough, Stacey is also the author of Eat Sleep Sing, a book combining the science behind singing and its benefits with practical exercises aimed at the novice as well as the more experienced singer.

We talked about her various facets as a professional musician, the healing power of singing and music, and what 2023 might have in store for Stacey.

  • Ep. 10 Barley Massey
    Nov 28 2022

In this episode, I welcome Barley Massey, the owner of the sustainable arts and crafts shop Fabrications located on Broadway Market in East London.

Born in Snowdonia, North Wales, Barley grew up in a very low impact way and owes her grandmother for teaching her their crafts from a young age. In the 1990s, Barley came to study Textiles at Goldsmith College. She describes living in London as an eye-opening experience for its creativity and multicultural backdrop.

In June 2000, parallel to working in the film and TV industry, Barley opened Fabrications, a shop dedicated to sustainable textiles, crafts and community, a mission that endures to this day.

We talked about her childhood, the "cradle-to-cradle model", second-hand vs vintage clothing, the mission of Fabrications, the journey that led Barley to open her own shop in East London (she describes herself as an "accidental" shopkeeper), her wonderful "Remember Me" project and so much more.

To find out more about Barley and what is happening at Fabrications, head to www.fabrications1.co.uk or to Instagram @fabricationshackney.

  • Ep. 9 Eve Linieres
    Oct 15 2022

In this episode, I welcome Eve Linieres, a volonteer, a Trustee at Refugee Support Europe and a hypnotherapist.

Born and raised in a tiny village in Surrey and the eldest of three girls, Eve has always been a people person.

Between 1984 and 1988, she studied Computational Linguistics and Modern Languages at the Institute of Science and Technology in Manchester.

She left with a third which didn't prevent her from fulfilling a very successful career in recruitment. Moral of the story: marks aren't everything.

Eve's first recruitment business was Ashley Coutts which she grew for 10 years and then, Amevco, which she co-founded with her little sister Amy.

After another decade spent in the industry, Eve decided to take a much deserved break.

But not for long. At the height of the Syrian crisis, Eve volunteered to help in refugee camps in Greece and Cyprus, and closer to home, in Calais.

Eve is a dear friend, a force of nature, winning everyone over with her enthusiasm and joie de vivre.

We talked about her experience as a volunteer in various capacities, the incredible work achieved by the organisation Refugee Support Europe, their fundraising event Dignify, hypnotherapy and the enduring human spirit.

To find out more about Refugee Support Europe, head to www.refugeesupporteuropeeu.com (where you can also buy your ticket!) and to contact Eve, you can use the following email address eve@amevco.com.
