    In 2014, after concerted efforts from the International Maple Syrup Institute (IMSI) and various maple syrup producer associations, both Canada and the United States revamped their laws to establish a unified grading system for maple syrup. The new system, effective as of December 31, 2014, in Canada and March 2, 2015, in the United States, introduced a standardized approach to categorizing maple syrup into different grades.
