  • Summary

  • Welcome to Episode 80 of the Sustainable Clinical Medicine Podcast!

In today's episode, we dive into the importance of self-care and reflection with special guest, Dr. Nicole Perrotte.

Dr. Sarah Smith engages in a candid conversation with Dr. Perrotte, a board-certified physician in internal medicine, who shares her experience of burnout and finding joy amidst the demanding world of clinical medicine.

Together, they explore the challenges of balancing work and personal life, especially as parents and healthcare professionals. From discussing the impact of interruptions and patient acuity to navigating the difficulties of asking for time off, they delve into the complexities of sustainable clinical medicine.

Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode:

    1. Taking a Pause: Finding time in a quiet space to reflect on our lives and decisions is crucial. It's difficult to answer "What do I need?" amidst the chaos, but starting with small steps like rest, hydration, and healthy meals can pave the way for self-discovery.
    2. Recognizing Worth: We need to recognize our own worth and make decisions aligned with our desires and needs. Setting boundaries and asking for help when needed are imperative steps towards creating a sustainable and fulfilling career in medicine.
    3. Seeking Joy and Balance: Prioritizing our needs and seeking joy and balance in our lives is essential. Dr. Nicole Perrotte's journey from hospitalist work to virtual work and offering coaching to support overwhelmed physicians highlights the importance of finding joy, self-confidence, and fulfillment in our careers and lives.
