Intro; Our Work, Our Identity

  • Summary

  • Description:

Welcome to the inaugural episode of Aqua Agenda, the podcast dedicated to the conservation of British Columbia's coastal and aquatic environments. Hosted by Angel Fisher, Director of Coastal Conservation with the BC Métis Federation, alongside Tanner Oswald, Coastal Coordinator, and Zia Yazdani, Coastal Manager, this episode provides an introduction to the podcast and its goals.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Who We Are: Learn about the BC Métis Federation, its mission, vision, and values. Discover how BCMF advocates for Métis communities across British Columbia through grassroots efforts and collaborative initiatives.
    • Coastal Conservation Department: Get to know our department, its formation in 2019, and its goals of safeguarding coastal and aquatic ecosystems for future generations. We provide an overview of our educational tools, resources, programs, and services.
    • Educational Initiatives: Explore our webinars, training sessions, newsletters, and new podcast as key sources of education on conservation. Follow us on Instagram at Coastal Water Protectors for updates and educational content.
    • Community Outreach: Hear about our extensive community outreach efforts, including attending and hosting events across British Columbia. In 2023 alone, we participated in 48 events, connecting with members and communities from Vancouver Island to the Thompson Okanagan and beyond.
    • First Responder Initiative: Learn about our spill kit distribution program, initiated by Coastal Water Protector Brad Giroux. This program provides spill kits to small pleasure craft vessel owners to help them respond safely to spills.
    • Coastal Water Protectors: Discover our ambassador program, which includes Coastal Pups, Coastal Seawolves, and Coastal Ambassadors. We highlight the success of our recent shoreline cleanup event at English Bay, which had over 400 volunteers and garnered media attention.

Join us as we dive into the world of coastal conservation and connect with our vibrant community. Stay tuned for future episodes featuring guest speakers and in-depth discussions on various aspects of coastal and aquatic conservation.
