This week we decided to take a look at the 1993 hilarious frenemy comedy Grumpy Old Men. Starring the original (and true) Odd Couple, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon, with plenty of other literal acting legends popping up along the way. It's hard not to enjoy this movie as it hilariously defines the line between friendship and hatred in a decade long rivalry between neighbors.

We were able to "drink at home" again this week as we picked up a few Old and In the Way American Lager's from our local brewery, Sawstone Brewing. We figured you can't help but make the connection between our grumpy old protagonists. The beer being a traditional American lager helped make us feel like we were sitting with them down at Slippery's Bar or out on the lake enjoying some fishing and a nice simple brew with guys.

Let's all hope to be grumpy old people someday.

After last week we decided to take the DeLorean for a spin back to 1999 and watch the raunchy teen classic American Pie (and maybe raid our closets for the perfect outfit for the occasion). It kicked off an empire of hilariously questionable movies, especially if you count all of the direct to DVD sequels, and helped launch the careers of most of the actors involved.

Our drink of choice this week was the perfect match for this movie, the very delicious Gold Medal Apple Pie Cider by Country Boys Brewing. Our first time drinking a cider for an episode and definitely think we picked a good one. It had all of the flavors you'd want from a nice apple pie, let's just hope Jim didn't get to this one first.

This week we decided to take a trip to the future, or to the past, or a future that is now the past. It's a whole mess of time travel shenanigans as we take a look at Back to the Future Part II. It's the one that introduced us to the hoverboard, alternate timelines, a flying DeLorean and a possible future that never came to pass.

Our beer for this week was Against the Grains Haze Capacitor, a very true to its name hazy IPA. The can is wonderfully illustrated with many references to the franchise, so we couldn't pass it up when we saw it on the shelf. It is a very hazy and amazingly flavorful IPA that certainly had us suffering some time dilations of our own, we didn't even realize we had been recording that long.

We're gonna need more POWER!!!

This week we took a look at the 1999 lake horror/monster/suspense movie, Lake Placid. A giant oversized croc is loose in the wilderness of New England and it's up to a plucky group of strangers to figure out what's going on and how to stop it. The movie has plenty of scares, gore and laughs and even an appearance from the legendary Betty White. You really can't ask for much more than that.

We know that our beer choice for the week, Alpha Gator by Abita Brewing, may have been slightly off the mark but we also instantly thought of this movie when we saw the can. No time for double checking croc or gator at the time and by the time we realized it was already too late. And although it may not have been the right animal, it was the right choice. This beer was excellent and surpassed all expectations. Just be careful, this gator might be biting back.

Let's all just be careful out in the water.

This week we took a dive into a world where darkness usually prevails and things do go bump in the night, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy. It's the perfect blend of action, occult/scifi, and comic book dorkiness all in one movie. It's got Ron Perlman going back to his prosthetic face covered roots and Doug Jones showing off his amazing talents, and so much more we could barely stop talking.

The very potent Old Rasputin, our drink of choice for the week may have added to that. It is a Russian imperial stout by North Coast Brewing that would probably even be able to take Rasputin down himself if he were to have a few too many. It's a dark roast-y coffee smell just blends perfectly into the bitter chocolate flavor. Definitely suggest you give it a try, but maybe go a little easier on them than we did.

Now let's bump back!

Our selection this week was the blast from the past (in more ways than one) Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. That's the one that started it all and really pushed the crazy lengths Mike Myers will go to for a good character. Come along and get a taste of the swinging '60s, spy movies, and some humor that at times might be as questionable as Austin's teeth.

Our beer of choice for the week was the very shagadelic Shag Bark Brown Ale by our local brewery here in Morehead, Sawstone Brewing Co. This was a very interesting brew and we were very excited to try it (it didn't hurt that it let us watch such a good movie too). The beer was made with locally foraged hickory shag bark that was toasted and thrown into the beer. It gives it a smokey, woodsy, campfire like quality that is truly one of a kind and a must try.

Now don't make me get out my big bag of shhh!

This week we watched the 2002 campy classic Bubba Ho-Tep, starring the legendary Bruce Campbell. Come with us as we follow along the bizarre adventure of a possible Elvis and former president as they track down an elusive soul sucking hillbilly mummy. It's a truly wild ride from start to finish.

Our drink of choice this week was the perfectly fitting Elvis Juice by Brewdog. It's a grapefruit infused IPA that has all of the best parts of grapefruit flavor and none of the bite. We're not sure what kind of mojo they stole from the King, but we swear it got more flavorful the longer we were drinking it. Truly one of the best beers we've tried yet.

This week we decided to liven things up some with a little music(al), so we watched the 1986 remake of The Little Shop of Horrors, based on the stage musical. The songs are great, the puppetry is larger than life, too many celebrities to keep up with and a weird macabre sci-fi story and those are just the highlights. If you somehow have made it this far in your life and not watched this movie, consider this your official invitation.

When we saw the can and name of this week's beer we instantly knew it had to be for this movie. The very perfectly named hazy IPA, Mortal Bloom by Founders Brewing, comes in a can with a different but similar looking carnivorous (possibly alien) plant reaching it's tendrils around the can. It was certainly refreshing full of citrusy tropical smells and flavors that certainly added to the appeal and make this just as dangerous as ol' Twoey.

**Added note - After a few weeks of equipment issues causing various recording and editing issues, we were fortunate to have an episode with no audio issues. On that note, these issues have caused us to take a hard look at how polished our editing is/needs to be. This weeks episode has 3 different levels of editing done: our usual level of editing you expect at the beginning, some slightly toned down editing and then at the end the super bare bones edit.
