The North Carolina Tar Heels released their 2024-25 college basketball non-conference schedule, with matchups set against Kansas, Alabama, Florida, and UCLA in addition to the Maui Invitational. Seeing a prominent program be willing to go on the road to face the Jayhawks, and generally play a tough schedule, is a welcome sight in the modern era.

The NCAA is expected to do away with scholarship limits, which will increase the number of scholarships for men's and women's basketball from 13 to 15. How will that impact various programs?

Drafting All-Americans is always a fun exercise. But what if you threw in a wrinkle? Each drafter can only select one player from each of the Power 5 basketball conferences: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally each quintet has to be a group that a coach would actually put on the floor for a basketball game. Ohio State released their non-conference schedule on Monday, which is mostly complete. The Buckeyes still have one more non-conference game to add which will be a neutral site contest. Coach Diebler’s first non-conference schedule has some nice high-level matchups, including the highest-profile opening day matchup we’ll get: Ohio State vs. Texas in Las Vegas.

Colorado also released their non-con schedule this week and it’s decidedly less challenging. Of the 11 games, eight are at home, all of which are against mid- or low-major teams. The Buffs’ shift back into the Big 12 and the loss of a talented core are the likely reasons for the weak non-con slate.

Oklahoma adds again (twice!) and Florida State gets a 2025 commit to re-class and come now.

The Peach Jam 2024 Championship game featured a host of ELITE high school talent, including 2025’s consensus No. 1 (AJ Dybantsa), 2 (Cameron Boozer), 4 (Caleb Wilson), and 17 (Cayden Boozer) plus 2026’s No. 2 (Tyran Stokes). The Boozer twins and Wilson captured the championship with Nightrydas Elite 71-62 over Dybantsa and Stokes’ Oakland Elite. Regardless the outcome of the game, it was a reminder of the sheer talent at the top of the 2025 and 2026 classes.

Jeremiah Fears (younger brother of Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears), previously an Illinois commit, has decided to re-classify to 2024 and committed over the weekend to Porter Moser and Oklahoma. Fears will be easily the Sooners’ best incoming freshman. A huge get at this point in the recruiting cycle! How will OU fare as they shift into the SEC?

The college basketball coaching carousel was busy this offseason, with Louisville, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Washington, West Virginia, and DePaul among the many programs letting go of coaches who weren't meeting expectations. This upcoming season may not have quite as many obvious hot seat candidates, but there are still quite a few programs that could make a change if things don't go well in 2024-25.

We pick one program from each power conference, and one mid-major program, where we think a coaching change could be coming. Discussion includes Mike Woodson at Indiana, Kyle Neptune at Villanova, a winless team from the SEC last season, a newcomer to the Big 12, and a potentially sad departure in the A-10.

Purdue released, this week, their non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season. The year after Zach Edey leaves, you would expect Matt Painter to take his foot off the throttle. Instead, it’s pedal-to-the-metal. Of Purdue’s 11 non-conference games, six are against Power conference opponents. How will Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith fare now that they don’t have the Big Man to draw all the attention? Kentucky also recently released their 13-game non-conference schedule (SEC only plays 18 conference games). How will Mark Pope’s crew do in Year 1? FSU continues to try and worm their way out of the ACC, but the problem is that they may not have a home if and when they do get out. Brett McMurphy is reporting that neither the SEC or Big Ten wants Florida State.

The NBA Summer League is about halfway done, and so far the 2024 NBA draft class has looked quite a bit better than initially advertised. Top 5 guards Reed Sheppard and Stephon Castle each look excellent in Houston and San Antonio, respectively, while No. 14 overall pick Bub Carrington out of Pitt has been a big time player already.

In the frontcourt, Zach Edey has a well-defined role waiting for him in Memphis, while Donovan Clingan is impacting the game as a passer and rim protector for Portland. Kel'el Ware looks great for Miami and Oso Ighodaro might be the best scoring center on the Phoenix Suns already.

Keshad Johnson and Trey Alexander are a pair of undrafted free agents off to great starts, while Bronny James continues to struggle with the Lakers.
