  • Bonus: Digital Nomadism - g4f Tech Show Discussion
    Feb 21 2024

This week on the Gadgets for Families Tech show, Jason and I had a pretty lengthy and in-depth conversation about the concept of Digital Nomadism.

    • What is digital nomadism?
    • Would we consider it?
    • What cultural shifts are or need to take place?

Those are some of the questions we discussed and I thought it was a good topic for this audience as well. I hope you get something out of it.

If you would like to hear the whole conversation you can do so on YouTube or your podcast player.

  • Going on Hiatus
    Jan 31 2024

Welcome to Leader's Lift. I'm your host Greg Cunningham.

Today I want to announce that I'm going to be putting a pause on this podcast. I've got several other priorities hitting right now and this is one of the things I have on my plate that falls below the cut off point in my priority list.

I don't think this will be a permanent hiatus and I'm going to leave everything in place to be able to drop a random episode if I have a burning topic that I just want to share with everyone. For the next while, I just won't be committing to any sort of a regular publication schedule.

If you have enjoyed the show, I'd love to get that feedback and if there is something I should consider in the future, please let me know that as well. You can find a contact form on my website at www.mtneboconsulting.com.

I hope that over the last year you have found at least a few things that you are using today to get more out of your own life or to help someone else do so. That was my goal with this. If you have any stories you'd like to share, I'd love to hear those as well.

Until you hear from me again, I hope you will go out there and keep lifting.

  • 45: Curiosity as a Skill
    Jan 24 2024

    Summary

This week I spend a few minutes talking about why I believe curiosity is an important, yet underdeveloped skill.

    Key Takeaways

    • Curiosity is more than wanting to know something.
    • It's about wanting to know and then use that knowledge to get more out of life.
    • Everything changes and if you aren't curious, you may just get left behind.
    • Without curiosity, you will never know if you are really getting the most out of life.
    • Curiosity can be developed.
    • If we put in the effort to develop curiosity as a skill, we will move forward down the path to our most potential.

Join me for this curious (pun intended) discussion.

  • 44: The Power of Journaling
    Jan 17 2024

    Summary

One of my keys this year is figuring out how to be more deliberate about the most important things I'm working on. If you have that same goal, then a tool that may help you do so is to figure out what kind of journaling works for you.

    Key Takeaways

    • Journaling has clear advantages like getting thoughts somewhere we can refer to or helping us brainstorm or sort through ideas.
    • First, understand why and what you want to journal.
    • If you are just starting out with journaling, keep it simple.
    • Like your mvp, start with little wins that help you build momentum.
    • My journaling "system" has evolved over time and yours should too.

Join me for the discussion on how I plan to be more deliberate in 2024 through journaling.

  • 42: Letting Go & Saying No
    Jan 3 2024

    Summary

In part four of this series, let's talk about how letting go actually gains us more (of many things). We have to learn to say no to good and even some pretty great things in order to focus on the things that matter most.

    Key Topics & Time Stamps

    • Welcome 00:00
    • Intro 00:27
    • Setting the Stage 02:17
    • Examples 05:01
    • Benefits for Leaders 06:45
    • General Benefits 08:31
    • Wrap Up 11:45

    Key Takeaways

    • In order to focus on the things that matter most, we are going to have to say no to other things, even good or really good things.
    • Saying no is one way to make significant progress on the path to our most potential and to avoid false progress.
    • Leaders and those they lead can benefit from the leader saying no to things and delegating.
    • Overall we will see less stress and regret if we focus on the things that matter most.

  • 41: False vs. Meaningful Progress
    Dec 20 2023

    Summary

In part three of this series, I talk about the difference between false and meaningful progress and then what we can do to try and focus on the latter. And then I cover some application ideas for your end of year assessment and planning exercises.

    Key Topics & Time Stamps

    • Welcome 00:00
    • Intro 00:22
    • Setting the Stage 02:10
    • False Progress 03:38
    • Meaningful Progress 05:05
    • Dealing with the Challenge 08:00
    • Application 12:41
    • Wrap Up 14:03

    Key Takeaways

    • Being business and making progress are not necessarily the same thing
    • Life will fill us with things to go and if we let it, it will feel like it's progress but it's generally false
    • Meaningful progress comes when we focus on the things that will make the biggest difference and help us move forward down our chosen path
    • We must learn to plan and prioritize the most important things
    • Our MVP (minimum viable plan) must have the important things, the things that we just need to get done and the ways we will avoid just being busy.

  • 40: Minimum Viable Plan
    Dec 13 2023

    Summary

This is part two of my end of year series and is focused on the concept of a "minimum viable plan". This is an adaptation of agile software development methodology. Think of it as building the minimum plan to help get you where you want to go and then consistently iterating on that plan as you learn and move down the path to your most potential.

    Key Topics & Time Stamps

    • Welcome 00:00
    • Intro 00:22
    • My adapted definition of agile 01:51
    • How I've seen agile work 03:58
    • Applying these ideas to development plans 06:46
    • Application to end of year planning 09:25
    • Wrap Up 16:45

    Key Takeaways

    • Minimum viable plan: what is the minimum plan that will help me get where I want to go
    • Don't buil a plan that is so rigid that if you can't follow it, you give up.
    • Build in flexibility
    • Small and simple things make the biggest difference
    • Build momentum early
    • Identify early opportunities to identify if you are on the right path or if you need to course correct
