Plus, we close out by talking about who's running the IBLP now, what happened with the lawsuit, and we actually discuss the Duggars and Bate's family a little bit more. In our second to last episode of the first season of Mysteretical Presents: The C Word we discuss the birds and the bees–Bill Gothard style...sorry. Yes, it's as awful as you probably suspect. Plus, you can listen to Lynne have covid, Amanda make many angry goblin sounds, and some Monty Python quotes to break the tension. We also dive into what the IBLP teaches about sex, sexual abuse and all of the victim blaming they could possibly muster. Even if the victim is a four year old child. Ugh.

In this weeks episode Amanda and Lynne dive deep into the ATI's training centers which offer great programs like solitary confinement, withholding food, and labor trafficking. We also discuss the IBLP's ALERT and EXCEL programs where boys spend copious amounts of money to fly airplanes and girls learn about morning routines and meal prepping. Plus! There's a surprise camp for troubled teens called the Log Cabin program that is horrible at it's best. It's definitely a trip down the IBLP rabbit hole.

Since we go so in-depth with our investigation into Bill Gothard's Institute in Basic Life Principles we typically split each episode into 2 parts...but this one really needed to stay whole. Editing it down was tricky because it all felt important and felt like it really shouldn't be split so here we are with a one part episode! We briefly go through the IBLP's 49 suggested character qualities everyone should have, and this provided us with a wealth of examples of how the IBLP misuses scripture (and grammar...which if you listened to our last episode, isn't shocking). 

Make sure you stick with us to the end because we discuss the unmentioned quality that is rampant within some evangelical spaces, including the IBLP, and that is narcissism. Please join us as we struggle through reading the King James Version of the Bible just to say that overall the IBLP has failed the test on accurately using scripture.

In this week's episode of Mysteretical Presents: The C Word, Amanda has done a deep dive into homeschooling, and more specifically homeschooling in the IBLP. With a mix of lax laws in certain states, "Jesus Juking" and only 6 years worth of subpar school books there is a major concern for kids who have learned through this program without supplemental materials. Plus, as two previously homeschooled millennials we discuss our own opinions, history and feelings about homeschooling in general - which is generally positive! When you have the proper materials and are challenged by what you're learning. Thankfully, ATI is no-more...but that doesn't mean the minds of the kids it affected aren't left in its wake.

In Part 2 we actually read through one of ATI's Wisdom Booklets - it feels like it's about third grade level, but is for both your 6 year old and your 17 year old...who would've thought. We also go through the Wisdom Booklet on the law (again for your 6 and 17 year old) and we discuss how outrageous it really all is. They truly are lacking in wisdom. It's a long episode but is full of detail of what these parents are teaching their kids...and unfortunately for some of them, this is all they get. 6 years worth of education to replace 12 years of using their developing brains to the best of their abilities.
