Welcome to Pedagogy NEXT, a podcast about excellence in teaching in higher education. The podcast series showcases and celebrates teaching stories and insights. For our second podcast episode, today we are talking to Dr. Ramon López. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) where he leads a research group that works in both space physics and science education. Dr. López is also a Co-Director for the UTeach Arlington teacher preparation program. His current research focuses solar wind-magnetosphere coupling, magnetic storms, and the application of research-based pedagogy to upper division and graduate physics courses López. Dr. López is a member of the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, member of both the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and has the Distinguished Record of Research Award at UT Arlington. The overarching theme of this episode is his dedication and commitment to physics education. Dr. López is grounded in decades of physics education research (PER) globally and shared ideas with us on what works for teaching. Related to innovation, he shared ideas on a course-specific chatbot that helped students work through their prior misconceptions about physics topics in developing their expertise. What stories do educators have to share?” The Pedagogy NEXT podcast series showcases and celebrates teaching stories and insights from award-winning faculty members and university administrators who directly or indirectly support teaching. Hosted by The UT Arlington Academy of Distinguished Teachers in partnership with OIT and the Center for Distance Education, we feature a storytelling focus that showcases the diverse voices of educators and others who can support learning excellence in higher education and UT Arlington.
