  • John Hazelwood on the Black man & the allowing of vulnerability and healing
    Aug 31 2023

This episode is an excellent one discussing mental health, ADHD, community, and the Black man.

John Hazelwood is an early 30's African American male mental health advocate in the fields of ADHD and Black Men's healing awareness. John was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 21 due to emotional regulation and productivity issues experienced throughout his college career. Though his degree and career are in the Mechanical Engineering field, he has found an unwavering passion for mental health awareness within recent years, especially as a minority, as he embarked on a journey to understand his own mental health. John and Marc Almodovar are founders of the Men's ADHD Facebook Support Group with over 10k members. He is the co-host of the Men's ADHD Support Group podcast where he discusses disparities in the mental health community while also documenting a daily journey with ADHD. John utilizes YT, twitter, FB, and IG to create mental health inspired content and is affiliated with mental health resource groups such as Black Men Heal and Therapy for Black Men. His content has been featured throughout numerous mental health accounts including recognition from high-profile influencers for work in the field.

John's goal is to inspire, empower, and motivate men, especially those of color. He proves that safe space does exist and mental health is important by being a much-needed Black male representative in the ADHD community. Through vulnerability, transparency, honesty, and resilience, John hopes to bridge the gap in understanding neurodiversity while sharing from a place of authenticity personal experiences, educating, and networking with other likeminded individuals. Moving forward, he wishes to expand his presence to TV, streaming throughout networks instead of only social media!

"Change begins with us acknowledging and being accountable for how we show up, pledging to dedicate the bandwidth it takes to make a difference in our community and our own lives."

  • Do You Have Communication Anxiety?

I want to use this season of Show Up with Sarah to use more episodes to dive deeper into fewer topics that I discuss with my clients so often that I believe bringing it to my listeners would be a big benefit!

In this episode, I discuss Communication Anxiety - a trend I see in my clients where they don't communicate because of certain fears that lead to them not showing up for themselves and taking the power from others by deciding their capacity to receive you. Here, you'll learn my favorite motto!
