  • Chartered Engineer to a Successful Social Entrepreneur (Feat. Herman Allen)
    Jul 8 2021

Millionaire and CEO Herman Allen is the founder and current owner of Holibrook House (children's homes) and Hopewell School. His working life has spanned over four decades, almost equally split between the first half as a chartered engineer and the second half as a social entrepreneur.

Coming from another industry to set up a social care business it was clear to Herman that he wanted to work "on and not" in the business, although he came to realization that wasn't entirely possible. He saw his role as setting the direction and casting vision guided by his faith, which is to "Restore Hope, Release Potential, Rebuild Lives".

That core task remains to this day. He started over 20 years ago with a fostering agency called Homestead Fostering before closing that and opening our first children's home in 2003 called Holibrook House. We now have 3 homes, a few less than at our peak. We also opened a special school in 2006, to enable us to provide holistic services to our young people.

You can found more about Herman and his school by checking out his website

  • All Things Property (Feat. Melissa Lewis)
    Jul 1 2021

Meet Melissa Lewis of ML Property Ventures

Melissa was working in HR full time, yet she always felt that there was ‘more out there’/I hated the routine. She got sacked from a few jobs for her lack of enthusiasm (who can pretend to enjoy the rat race day in day out?!). She then researched alternative things she could do and was looking into buying into a franchise as a ‘way in’ to building a business/having a business ready to go.

She then purchased her first property at the age of 26, after years of saving. She enjoyed the process so much, that that was my eureka moment of ‘I’m going to go into property. She started off buying into an online estate agent franchise and from there, she was meeting investors who would tell me to look out for properties -  just for them and they explained what they were looking for; how she should work out the ROI, mortgage costs, refurb costs, etc. Melissa then decided to set up her own business focusing just on finding properties in Essex for investors. It’s since expanded and we now source developments across the UK and offer property services, etc.

    Go check out Melissa's Website
