On June 29 and June 30, 2023, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) made a trio of rulings on Affirmative Action, Student Loans, and Religion, Free Speech, and Gay Rights which meant that moving forward, race could not be used as a factor in admissions, student loans debt will not be forgiven, and that despite a state law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. • DEI is: Naming Whiteness in White Spaces
    Jun 30 2023

    📜Transcript | 📺Video

If you can’t talk about a problem, can you even work on it? This is PRECISELY the position that many DEI professionals find themselves in. If we can’t talk about whiteness—that is, the way that the dominant culture systematically advantages white people over others—then what can we really DO about it to ensure that white people are part of solutions that work for all, including white people? Further, if we can’t speak about whiteness in spaces dominated by whiteness (you know, like most businesses), then how can we create the kinds of diverse, equitable, inclusive, accessible, and just workplaces where everyone belongs? Dr. Nadejda Webb, Clarissa Fuselier, and Jess MacFarlane join The “DEI is:” Podcast to walk us through why it’s so crucial to successful DEI work to be able to name whiteness in white spaces—and how YOU can start doing something about it TODAY.
