    Aug 11 2023

    📺Video | 📜Transcript

On June 29 and June 30, 2023, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) made a trio of rulings on Affirmative Action, Student Loans, and Religion, Free Speech, and Gay Rights which meant that moving forward, race could not be used as a factor in admissions, student loans debt will not be forgiven, and that despite a state law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. So what does all this mean for DEI and social justice in K-12 Education and the workplace of the future?

Tune in to find out what Dr. Katherine Giscombe, Diane Bell-McKoy, Dr. Marshaun Hymon, & Karima Wilson have to say about it on August 2, 2023 at 12PM ET/9AM PT!

  • DEI is: Naming Whiteness in White Spaces
    Jun 30 2023

    📜Transcript | 📺Video

If you can’t talk about a problem, can you even work on it? This is PRECISELY the position that many DEI professionals find themselves in. If we can’t talk about whiteness—that is, the way that the dominant culture systematically advantages white people over others—then what can we really DO about it to ensure that white people are part of solutions that work for all, including white people? Further, if we can’t speak about whiteness in spaces dominated by whiteness (you know, like most businesses), then how can we create the kinds of diverse, equitable, inclusive, accessible, and just workplaces where everyone belongs? Dr. Nadejda Webb, Clarissa Fuselier, and Jess MacFarlane join The “DEI is:” Podcast to walk us through why it’s so crucial to successful DEI work to be able to name whiteness in white spaces—and how YOU can start doing something about it TODAY.

  • DEI is: Too American!
    May 26 2023

Diversity. Equity. Inclusion. Belonging. Access. Justice. In our current climate, these words are configured and reconfigured seemingly endlessly, but the throughline for whatever acronym you prefer, is trying to have a positive impact on the way that we work and of course, live with one another. To that end, such efforts are constructed with capital “S” Society in mind—that is, everyone. Or is it? Most conversations around DEI revolve around one embedded assumption: the context we’re talking about is the USA. So, just HOW diverse, equitable, and inclusive is DEI? Join host Enrico E. Manalo and special guests, Abbiola Ballah, Founder & CEO of Phern Education Studios LLC, and Kaumudi Goda, Founder of The Human Conversation. ***

  • DEI is: Navigating Resistance to Change & Conflict w/ Katie McLaughlin
    Apr 28 2023

It’s often said that “the only constant is change”, but it might be accurate to add “. . . and resistance to change.” For all the attention that DEI and Social Justice, Organizational Justice, and even Economic Justice have garnered in recent years, it’s the resistance to change that has taken center stage. Why is that and what can we do about it? Join host Enrico E. Manalo and special guest, Katie McLaughlin, Founder, Chief Strategist & Transformation Artist at McLaughlin Method as we drill down to what YOU can do about resistance to DEI efforts and the conflict that can come with that resistance in YOUR organization! *** ➡️Not yet part of the DiVerity Network? • DEI is: “Intersectionality”, Organizational Progress & Political Impact w/ Dr. Nikki Lane
    Nov 22 2022

Dr. Nikki Lane is an interdisciplinary scholar trained as a Cultural and Linguistic Anthropologist, working along the edges of academia making contemporary critical theory accessible, using common sense, everyday language that anyone can understand. Dr. Lane is an Assistant Professor at Duke University and is an advisor for DiVerity.

So, what IS “intersectionality” anyway? A lot of people have attached their own ideas to the term since Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term in 1989 and while language of course changes as people use it, when there’s money to be made companies and organizations often add their own twist on things. But to what end? Join our conversation with Dr. Nikki Lane exploring that very question!
