• G.R.O.W Approach to Increase Class Attendance
    Jun 15 2024

I'm excited to be bringing Ingrid Knight-Cohee back for more!

She's been kind enough to preview some highlights from her upcoming session, "GROW Your Classes!" coming up at IDEA World 2024. We will review how to use the classic GROW coaching model developed by Sir John Whitmore and apply it to your fitness class programming. Typically, the Goal of any class is to increase participation rates and keep current members happy. The Reality is not so easy – what are your limitations and challenges? We will explore viable Options to get your classes and business to where you want it to be. Where there’s a Will …there’s a way!

Ingrid will also share more about her own format, MSINGI Movement, the first of its kind Afrocentric functional movement practice.

Here are the questions I ask Ingrid:

    1) Please describe the GROW acronym.
    2) What examples and strategies can you provide managers to support instructors in growing their classes?
    3) You've created and launched a new format, MSINGI! Please share more about the format and how it can increase class attendance from an instructor's and manager's perspective.

    Apr 27 2024

The fitness industry has always been a complicated world, but it has become even more complex since the pandemic. Some facilities and businesses have chosen to adjust to this new world, while some are very much stuck in their ways. As a "middle-manager, " we must determine if where we are is the right fit. Life is too short, and there's too much impact gone to waste if we continue to work for companies that don't align with our values, goals, and mission. I'm excited to meet with Victoria Tolbert-Ashley to get real about the state of the industry and how you, as a manager, can assess where you are now, identify if it works for you, and take steps to take action or determine your exit strategy.

Here are the questions I ask Victoria:

1️⃣ You've held many roles in the industry as a consultant and leader of large teams. What does it mean to be a "Value-Driven Fitness Manager"?

2️⃣ You encourage fitness professionals and managers to consider their "exit strategy." How would you describe determining that and the ideas you share with your clients and mentorees?

3️⃣ What are your top 3 recommendations for Fitness Managers to do to determine whether the facility and team they work with align with their values and goals?

  • Developing A Signature Format Formula
    Sep 19 2023

Creating, building, and offering successful Signature Formats is a unique challenge for fitness facilities. It takes creativity while also staying true to the specific talent, equipment, and formats facilities offer. I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda Young this past summer at the 2023 IDEA World Fitness Convention and attended her excellent session sharing the five steps to creating a winning Signature Format. I’m excited to ask her some specific questions on my channel about her formula to help more facilities develop confidence in creating their own successful Signature classes and sessions.

Here are the questions I ask Amanda:

    1) One of the important elements you highlighted in your session was the importance of “knowing your story” as an instructor and business. May you please share more on why that’s important and HOW to tap into that authenticity?
    2) I loved how you described the communication styles of instructors and the value of assessing them to get clear on what the experience will be. Can you share the communication styles and why they need to be considered when creating a new format?
    3) You provided such great visual representations of your class format examples. Please describe the color coding and shapes you’ve used when building templates.
