The Marrow of Modern Divinity: Intros and Ch. 1, Sec. 1

  • Resumen

  • In this episode, we continue reading The Marrow of Modern Divinity by Edward Fisher, beginning with the remaining introductory matter and finishing at the end of Chapter 1, section 1.

The Marrow of Modern Divinity was originally published in two parts in 1645 and 1649 respectively and attributed to the author who went by the pen name of just the initials E.F., later attributed to Edward Fisher. The core of the Marrow is a discourse among four characters, Evangelista the gospel minister, Nomist the legalist, Antinomista the antinomian, and Neophytus the young Christian. But before this, the introductory material does lay out the debate between Antonomianism and Legalism as he saw it in 1645.

Because this is audio, I’m not going to be able to record Thomas Boston's footnotes in a way that allows the discourse to flow on audio. These notes come with the recommendation of John Belfrage as we heard in the previous episode, so it may be worth your while to look them up as we go through the series.

The theme music is “Beyond the Warriors” by Guifrog.
