As new parents, Mandy and her husband’s worlds were turned upside down when she received news of her breast cancer diagnosis. Having a toddler to take care of as well as managing her own health made for a difficult balance. The path Mandy followed was filled with challenges and began initially when she was told that what she had discovered wasn’t anything to worry about. But Mandy’s intuition told her otherwise and she pressed on, determined and diligent about following through with what her gut was telling her.

Mandy was blessed to have a supporting staff of friends and loved ones in her life who stepped in to help her and her husband with their young daughter, Hannah, so that they could focus on getting treatment and getting well. That love and assistance made it possible for her to be diligent about healing. Notably, without that help, her path could have been much more challenging than it already was.

Thankfully, Mandy has been cancer free for a number of years and is a strong advocate for others, reminding everyone that no matter your health circumstances, each of us knows ourselves better than anyone else does and that following that inner voice is imperative. Without her diving in, asking questions, and advocating, things would have been much different. Mandy’s faith and formidable spirit are true gifts to everyone’s lives she touches.

  • The Soul Goals, Episode 44: Charlsey Etheridge
    Jul 9 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

For singer/songwriter Charlsey Etheridge, music has served as an important release since a young age. Her parents laid a wonderful foundation for her future and she knew from an early time that this was a career she wanted to pursue. College, however, brought on challenges that would force her to take a vital stock of her life and what music really meant for her when she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 19.

Throughout numerous hospitalizations, surgeries, blood transfusions, and financial instabilities related to her condition, Charlsey continued to keep her eyes set on her faith and dove in to her musical roots. This critical diagnosis also found her leaning in to the awareness of her body and her mind in a very significant and intuitive way, helping her address the psychological side of this chronic illness that accompanies her to this day.

Charlsey knows that through the years of delicately balancing her illness with her musical career, her “worth doesn’t come from tangible things, an invaluable lesson.” Getting to that realization wasn’t easy and it involved a significant amount of ups and downs, things she knows that she will continue to work through. The flip-side of having a chronic illness has shown Charlsey that life is so much more than what we do. Her candidness and vulnerability are only a couple of the beautiful gifts that have grown through her years of managing this balance and her music reflects this in such a special way.

Charlsey’s release of “Scars of Mine” in the fall of 2023 allows an honest view in to her experiences and gives listeners so much to immerse themselves in. A gifted songwriter and amazing human, Charlsey continues to live steadfast and true, honoring each day as it comes and giving thanks for the love and connection of her husband, her ability to create, record, and perform regularly, and the sheer gift of life. She is a true testament to resilience!

New to parenting and unsure of this path, it became increasingly important for them to arm themselves with as much information as they could to begin raising their precious newborn baby girl.

Graham and his wife knew they needed to make some changes to their life to better help them care for Mikayla. As their precious daughter grew, Tucker’s House was just the organization to help their growing family, assisting them with making necessary home modifications that gave the entire household a smoother routine that accommodated Mikayla’s physical disabilities. Through generous donors, Tucker’s House helps numerous families in remodeling and constructing these much-needed updates to their homes, giving those with disabilities the chance to live a more full life with their loving families.

Tucker’s House gave Mikayla and her entire family a vital lift that they all needed. With important home remodels and modifications, their routine became more balanced and cohesive, giving them all such valuable moments with Mikalya that they didn’t have time for before. Graham knew that this organization was so special from the very beginning. His “why” has always been very clear and his dedication to helping others in the position that he and his sweet family faced is a wonderful gift to those who need this important assistance.

Sweet Mikayla’s life was cut short in 2018 at the young age of 5, however, her indelible spirit lives on each day Graham steps foot in his office at Tucker’s House. The gift that Mikayla brought to her family is one that none of them will ever take for granted and her loving nature and her presence for the moments she lived will forever be a part of Tucker's House.

  • The Soul Goals, Episode 40: Pri Lima
    Jun 11 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Pri Lima’s fiery spark is undeniable and that coupled with her passion for life and achievement has been her driving force for years. Pri’s upbringing in Brazil and her connection to her Grandmother shaped her in to the woman she is today and taught her about resilience and tenacity.

As a teenage athlete, Pri dominated the indoor volleyball court in Rio. She picked up beach volleyball at the age of 16, calling herself a “late-bloomer”, but quickly showed the community what she was made of, going undefeated for two straight years with her beach partner. Landing in the US with a full-ride scholarship to ULL to play indoor volleyball, she began making her mark in a large way, garnering numerous collegiate accolades as well as achieving success as she played in the AVP main draw and represented Brazil in the South American Tour, the Continental Cup, and the FIVB Tour.

Pri will be quick to say that these accomplishments were second to the success that her wife, Michelle Piantadosi, achieved as she battled and overcame breast cancer. Walking this road beside her partner, Pri dove in head first as Michelle’s number one supporter as her wife dealt with chemotherapy and a double mastectomy. Watching Michelle fight to get to the other side and being an intimate part of her healing process, Pri takes nothing in life for granted and dedicates so much of herself to everything she takes part in.

Pri is the owner and director of Optimum Beach in St. Petersburg, a beach volleyball training program for all levels including young kids through professional players. She is dedicated to growing the game and leaving her mark on the community in a big way. Pri was named head beach volleyball coach for the University of South Florida earlier this spring and is excited to embark on and build a new program with her hand-picked athletes in the upcoming years. Go Bulls!

One of Pri’s main missions is helping others realize that being a strong athlete encompasses more than just your physical game. “Courage before confidence” is a mantra she claims and is the backbone of her life as well as the training she passes on to those who work with her. Welcoming their beautiful daughter, Mila, in to the world last month, Pri is reminded yet again of the preciousness of life. This spicy Brazilian’s balance of hard work, passion, and tenacity is such a gift to those whose lives she touches!

    Jun 4 2024

Gymnastics has been a part of Jordan’s story for over half of her young life. Her love for her sport and the dedication and hard work that it took for her to land a full athletic scholarship to The University of California Berkley as a vital member of the women’s gymnastics team shows just how strong her desire is to pursue and to succeed.

Jordan’s work ethic, her tenacity, and her faith helped land her an amazing opportunity at her dream school, she had to rely on those attributes to get her through a painful back surgery and recovery, an injury that threatened to end her gymnastics career. But Jordan dove straight in to her faith and diligently kept the phrase “trust the process” as her guide throughout her trying road. As she says, “God’s perfect timing” was one that couldn’t be denied. From finding the ideal surgeon in the most unique of ways to perform the complicated procedure to the unending support of her college coaches and teammates to get her back to the gymnastics floor, God’s hand was evident in every thread of Jordan’s story.

With a continued commitment to success and that drive to tackle the challenging points of her injury recovery, Jordan recently found another huge success at the end of her junior collegiate year, competing this spring with her Cal Women’s Gymnastics team at the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships. Cal finished a mere fraction of a point behind the first place team to land their highest accolade in program history, grabbing an awesome 2nd place NCAA season finish! Way to work, Bears!

Looking to her senior year, Jordan is excited for what the future holds for her and her teammates, both in and out of the gym. Her heart and her faith are massive! This gal is going places!

  • The Soul Goals, Episode 38: Marcel
    May 28 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Marcel knows struggle. But he also knows perseverance. Through his addiction grew the understanding that our youth today need nurturing and support in ways that empower them to find their will to succeed even through their circumstances.

In 2016, Marcel began a non-profit program in the Middle Tennessee area called “Be About Change.” After attending yet another funeral of a teenager gone-too-soon to violence and addiction, the experience of being around caring adults and the chance to uplift and empower a group of young people who felt lost and stuck was something he felt compelled to tackle. Marcel began building a community that helps our youth stand back up when they fall and offers them tools to understand that they offer immense gifts to this world, much of which is untapped and undiscovered.

“Be About Change” works with youth to establish literacy, dynamic life, and to continue their education and gain confidence to realize their true leadership qualities. With many ways to get involved, “Be About Change” is affecting lives through those that they help as well as those individuals that serve and offer assistance. In knowing that “to whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48), Marcel’s personal growth and recovery has given way to this integral concept for youth who are struggling to be seen, heard, and to understand their innate brilliance.

Check out our compelling conversation about self-growth and how helping others helps ourselves. As Father Mark Beckman says, “allowing the light of the Lord to shine through us like a stain glassed window” brings hope to those we encounter. “Be About Change” continues to be those pieces of light in lives of darkness through even the most narrow of openings.
