  • Liminal Space: The BACKROOMS of Reality

In this week’s show we traverse the perilous Backrooms of creepy-pasta fame, using its dark mythology popularized by Kane Pixels as a case-study of the nature and power of liminality. We begin by exploring the liminal space of the backrooms as they first appeared originally in their anonymous creepy-pasta format alongside other images labeled “liminal spaces.” We discuss what liminality even means and how it can be creepy, exhilarating and a powerfully nuanced feature of creation itself. We discover, as with most inspired pieces of art, the horror of the backrooms was a reflection of real world events at the time. Aside from the mental and spiritual aspects, we put on our nerd glasses to explore how liminality functions in the world of natural, physical phenomena. We then conclude the free show by revealing where and when the backrooms photo was actually taken with some light-hearted musing about the synchronicities around this discovery. In the extended show we continue our discussion of liminality by exploring the dread abode of Catholic limbo, why dogs are inherently liminal by nature and how the mighty goddess Hecate rules over this entire domain of related ideas. Heck we even explore, in its entirety, an easily performed ritual by the late Satanic Church founder Anton Lavey designed to elevate the enjoyment of liminal spaces to its maximum degree. We discuss whether the classical minotaur of Crete was trapped in a labyrinth or a maze before exploring in detail the potent magickal ideas of ancient Egypt as they pertain to liminality specifically. Its pretty surprising how old some of these now popular ideas and motifs really are. Then, right before wrapping up we visit the Vault of the Adepts to discuss how liminality is celebrated in the Hermetic tradition and how feminist author Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote about the backrooms almost exactly how they are portrayed in today’s creepypasta but over 100 years ago. Thank you and enjoy the show!

This week sees us back for PART 2 of our deep-dive into the symbolic and occult meaning underpinning Philip K. Dick’s autobiographical, mostly-still-fiction, futuristic dystopia: A Scanner Darkly. We resume our analysis by first unpacking the symbolic meaning of the insects which haunt the characters from start to finish and what they have to do with the beetle headed god of ancient Egypt. Afterwards we explore the connection Donna has with the divine feminine in both Gnostic and Egyptian mythology, the inside scoop on Substance D, the field of reeds and the inclusion of the Thelemic N.O.X. formulae which also appears in the famous Black Lodge of Twin Peaks. In the extended version of the show we discuss the meaning of the Hawthorne plant, the layers of esoteric symbolism in the film version of Bob’s living room using the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, who Barris really is and what it all has to do with popcorn. • A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick, Part 1
    Jun 7 2024

Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here!

On this week’s show we dive back into the world of science-fiction-author extraordinaire, Philip K. Dick by looking at his break-out, dystopian, future-prophesying 1977 classic “A Scanner Darkly,” alongside its faithful 2006 film adaptation. If you’re not familiar, the movie is free on Youtube. In the free section of the show we explore the Biblical quote the title of the work is referring to and why this film and numerous other works by Philip K. Dick could be considered gnostic in character. We dig into and find a number of gems by looking at the name etymology of a Scanner Darkly’s characters, starting of course with Bob which reveals numerous connections to gnostic and ancient Egyptian wisdom. In the extended edition of the show we go even deeper into what is really going on in the iconic medical examination scene. By looking at Egyptian hieroglyphs we get some heavy insight into the meaning behind the symbols used in the scene and triangulate an ancient myth which reflects ALL the major themes in A Scanner Darkly. If that were not enough we even find how the gematria value of the examination room reflects these ideas in a coherent way that further clarifies the deeper narrative behind Philip K. Dick’s strangely charming and tortured tale before concluding with a discussion about which order of angel is responsible for reading Freck’s endless list of sins - thank you and enjoy the show!

In this week’s show we discuss:
    The Title from Corinthians
The Kenoma and Black Iron Prison
    Etymology of Bob
    A Sun God
    The Watchers
    Arctor, El-Primo Huntee
    Frederick the Bruce
    Gospels of Thomas
