In this episode of the Youth Partnership podcast, the YIELD Hub alongside Rutgers delves into the diverse range of topics within SRHR research, exploring the unique challenges young researchers face and the incredible solutions they propose. Further, we highlight the collaborative processes, results, and lessons from two young researchers from the Netherlands and Indonesia.

Through insightful interviews, expert discussions, and firsthand accounts, this episode highlights why we need to recognize young people as researchers in SRHR. By amplifying their voices and experiences, we aim to promote a paradigm shift in how we approach SRHR research, advocating for a more inclusive approach; one that is co-led with youth and that ultimately leads to more effective and equitable sexual and reproductive health outcomes for all.

In this episode, we delve into the unique challenges and pivotal questions surrounding the involvement of young people in Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (AYSRHR). It's a critical look at how age can sometimes limit engagement and the essential steps organizations need to take to ensure that youth leaders aren't just involved but are also equipped with mentorship and professional guidance. This guidance is crucial for their seamless transition into various professional roles within the AYSRHR ecosystem. We're exploring innovative ways stakeholders in AYSRHR can create support systems and processes to empower young people, not just as participants but as skilled professionals ready to take on impactful roles. Our discussion underscores the importance of broadening our understanding of youth participation – it's more than just treating young people as partners or leaders; it's about building a strong foundation of relevant skills and providing opportunities to apply them. Tune in as we dissect how equipping youth with these skills and opportunities enables them to "age up" into professional roles within the AYSRHR ecosystem, rather than aging out.

In celebration of International Youth Day 2023, we've published a special episode of our #YouthPartnership podcast with an aim to foster discussions about youth partnerships and their significance in shaping the world's future. This episode highlights the achievements and personal experiences of young individuals who have had significant experience working in the adolescent and youth SRHR field.

It has been said that perhaps what makes Collective Action Learning so unique is the level of introspection it takes, pushing organisations to look within themselves first to shift the narrative on youth partnership in the adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health rights (AYSRHR) ecosystem. This podcast episode will focus on the pressure we often feel in the development sector to highlight our successes and “ignore” our failures consistently.

During this episode, we will feature partners who participated in our inaugural action learning group to share key learnings and experiences from our first action learning cycle which dissected the gender discrimination and exclusion too often experienced by young women and gender diverse youth leaders in the AYSRHR ecosystem. Anchored on this thematic area, we hope to discuss previous interventions that have been implemented to specifically address gender exclusion, dissect why some of these have failed and share perspectives on why it’s important to acknowledge these failures.

In this manner, this podcast episode seeks to make a case for how and why action learning creates a much-needed space to highlight what hasn’t worked in the past in the SRH space and allow for cross-learning within the field.

For our first-ever episode, we’re starting off with a recap of a Twitter Spaces discussion we had in late 2022, in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism. In this session, we delved into how amplifying youth partnership can contribute towards the fight to end violence against women and girls.
