Despite initial dead ends, the case was reopened in 2012, leading to the identification and eventual extradition of Sergio Francisco Reyes, now 37, from Mexico. With DNA evidence and thorough investigation, Reyes was finally apprehended and faces multiple felonies, including sexual assault and first-degree murder. Elena's family, especially her aunt Kate Turville, expresses relief and gratitude for the long-awaited justice, although it comes after Elena's mother's passing. Ky reflects on the perseverance of the Phoenix Police Department and the emotional toll on the family.
