• Ep 107: Effective Methods For Finding And Providing Mentorship with Dr. Ann Anderson Berry

    Dr. Ann Anderson Berry is the Vice President of Research at Children’s Nebraska and a professor and the executive director of the Child Health Research Institute. She serves as the UNMC John and Patti Sparks Chair of Pediatric Research, vice-chair of research in the Department of Pediatrics and the division chief of Neonatology. She is the founding medical director of the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative. Her research activities include funded federal and state research grants evaluating perinatal nutrition and the impact on maternal and fetal outcomes, and additional studies on Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome, the impact of intrauterine opioid exposure on brain development, and the consequences of poor nutrition and social stressors on infants with intrauterine opioid exposure on neurodevelopment and long-term health. She is a constant advocate for Nebraska families and understands the importance of recognizing rural and urban needs when allocating perinatal resources. As a mentor to students at the undergraduate, medical student and resident and graduate level she works to prepare trainees to do impactful and outstanding work in their chosen fields. An Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine graduate, Dr. Anderson Berry serves on national committees for the American Society of Nutrition, the Pediatric Academic Society and Women in Neonatology. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wyoming. She attended Creighton University for her medical degree. Her pediatric Residency and PhD were attained at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and her fellowship was in Neonatology was completed at the University of Utah. She loves spending time with her husband and two daughters in the mountains of Wyoming.

    Meet Dr. Jessica Mendelsohn, owner of New South Family Medicine and MedSpa located in Fort Mill, SC.

    Dr. Mendelsohn is originally from Virginia Beach, VA and went to Virginia Tech for her undergraduate studies. After graduating from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2003, Dr. Mendelsohn moved to Charlotte, NC to begin her residency training in Family Medicine. Upon completion in 2006, she practiced in Charlotte for 8 years at a large hospital practice, and then in hospice care for 5 years. In 2019, Dr. Mendelsohn opened New South Family Medicine as a solopreneur. New South has since grown into both a booming direct primary care (DPC) practice and a full service medspa.

    Dr. Mendelsohn now employs 15 teammates, including her husband, Dr. Dave Mendelsohn, who joined her primary care practice in 2022. Along with two amazing PA’s, they serve more than 1000 DPC patients.

    The MedSpa at New South opened in 2021 and has grown to a team of ten women that provide a wide range of medical-grade aesthetic services, including injectables, laser treatments, and hormone therapy.

    Dr. Mendelsohn is passionate about both physician independence and entrepreneurship. Intent on restoring the relationship between physician and patient, Dr. Mendelsohn is expanding New South into a holistic model that will include mental health, nutrition, and preventive health services. She intends to expand New South into multiple physician-owned locations and is looking for physicians ready to leave fee-for-service medicine and take back ownership of their clinical practice and work-life balance.

    Dr. Jenny Gourgari, MD, MS, PhD, is an accomplished pediatric endocrinologist with a dedicated focus on helping teenagers get to a healthy weight. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology, with an additional certification in Obesity Medicine. Dr. Gourgari holds a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University and a PhD from University of Athens, Greece. Her passion to address pediatric obesity lead her to become also a certified Health Coach for teens and start the “Lifestyle and Weight Loss for Teens Podcast”, hoping to educate as many families as possible with evidence-based information in topics related to healthy lifestyle and how to build healthy habits that last.

    Dr. Gourgari has been actively involved in helping children who have hormonal problems for more than 15 years. Her expertise is recognized through numerous awards and publications in academic journals.
