It is (like many of Wells's works) notable for its prophetic ideas, images, and concepts - particularly the use of aircraft for the purpose of warfare - as well as conceptualizing and anticipating events related to World War I. The novel's hero and main character is Bert Smallways, who is described as "a forward-thinking young man" and a "kind of bicycle engineer of the let's-'ave-a-look-at-it and enamel-chipping variety."

In this religious tract published in 1917, H. G. Wells (who achieved fame as a pioneer in the science fiction genre of writing) details his beliefs in a "modern religion", which involves the eschewing of rites and dogmatic beliefs for a more universal theology. He rejects certain aspects of dominant Christian dogmas such as the idea of the Holy Trinity and the omniscience and omnipresence of God and outlines his vision of an all-encompassing, all-inclusive society guided by devotion to serving God.

And the world that he resumed life in was a fabulous one, a world of great marvels and scientific achievement, whose strange underlying economy was that it was all his private property, for the acquisition of interest and the testaments of others had made Graham the Sleeper the sole final owner of everything - with an administrative council that dictated to the world in his name!

A Modern Utopia is a 1905 novel by H. G. Wells. Because of the complexity and sophistication of its narrative structure, A Modern Utopia has been called "not so much a modern as a postmodern utopia." The novel is best known for its notion that a voluntary order of nobility known as the Samurai could effectively rule a "kinetic and not static" world state so as to solve "the problem of combining progress with political stability".

The Food of the Gods and How It Came to Earth is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1904. Wells called it "a fantasia on the change of scale in human affairs.... I had hit upon [the idea] while working out the possibilities of the near future in a book of speculations called Anticipations (1901)." The novel is about a group of scientists who invent a food that accelerates the growth of children and turns them into giants when they become adults.

He is known, along with Jules Verne, as one of the 19th-century fathers of logical, rational science fiction, but in this 1917 novel, H. G. Wells weaves a more intuitive tale, about a bishop haunted by strange dreams and visions that challenge his faith. Lyrical, poetic, and verging on stream-of-consciousness in places, this little-read work of one of the most enduringly popular writers of modern literature is like found treasure, offering a captivating and unexpected insight into Wells' psyche.

As the visitor to Lorraine Castle tells its two elderly caretakers, he does not believe in ghosts and will prove it by spending the night in the Red Room. Their parting words to him are that he is doing it by his own choosing. He moves away, smug with confidence. But as he ascends the spiral stairs with a single candle, what he senses around him begins to fill him with a growing, unnamable fear.

Mankind in the Making (1903) is H.G. Wells's sequel to Anticipations (1901). Mankind in the Making analyzes the "process" of "man's making," i.e. "the great complex of circumstances which mould the vague possibilities of the average child into the reality of the citizen of the modern state." Taking an aggressive tone in criticizing many aspects of contemporary institutions, Wells proposed a doctrine he called "New Republicanism," which "tests all things by their effect upon the evolution of man.

Anticipations, a 1901 book by H.G. Wells, is a collection of prognostications for the 20th century, and was Wells' first nonfiction best seller. Covering topics like urban growth, transportation systems, societies, language, war, democracy, and public policy, it sets out the author's ideas of what the world would be like 100 years later, in the year 2000. Wells was wrong in some aspects and quite right in others. He expected a single worldwide government with one official language, one global religion, and universal peace.

In the Fourth Year is a collection H. G. Wells assembled in the spring of 1918 from essays he had recently published discussing the problem of establishing lasting peace when World War I ended. It is mostly devoted to plans for the League of Nations and the discussion of post-war politics.

H.G. Wells is best known for his science fiction, but some of his greatest works were in other genres. "The Passionate Friends" is a love story.
