Jules Thornton didn’t come to Florida horse country to make friends. She has only ever needed her beloved horse, Dynamo, and her ruthless ambition—and she is well on her way to becoming the champion rider and trainer she’s always dreamed of being. Sure, maybe her farm is on the shabby outskirts of fancy Ocala, and her working student seems to hate her, and the nights with only her beagle for company are starting to feel lonely.

It took a hurricane for her to admit it, but Jules Thornton is finally in love. After losing her farm and nearly her life last year, Jules is back on her feet, living with her sweet, handsome boyfriend, Pete Morrison, at his idyllic Briar Hill Farm. True, she is more dependent on Pete than she might have liked, but he is constantly reassuring her that they are a team, that she will always have a home at Briar Hill. And when Pete is offered a dream sponsorship and a trip to England to hone his cross-country skills, he promises that Jules will be getting her own offer.

Jules Thornton isn’t afraid of anything—except, maybe, riding racehorses. So she never imagined she would find herself at a racetrack at dawn. But her new home, Briar Hill Farm, is in trouble, and she and her boyfriend, Pete Morrison, are willing to do just about anything to save it. The one silver lining to Jules’s unexpected side job is Alex, her new boss. Alex, easygoing and cheerful, couldn’t be more different than Jules. Jules and Pete have hit rock bottom. They are living in the middle of nowhere in a tiny horse trailer, their horses are in temporary stalls, and they are dependent on nearby farms for training facilities. Yet somehow, despite all of that, Jules has never been happier. She has her horses and her boyfriend and her loyal beagle, and, for perhaps the first time ever, she feels free. But Pete doesn’t see things the way she does. Still reeling from the loss of Briar Hill, the beautiful farm he was supposed to inherit, Pete struggles to adapt to their new life.

But the cracks begin to show as the eventing season winds up and summer sets in across Florida. Pete’s new horse has an overbearing owner who is pressuring him into pushing the horse too fast. Dynamo suddenly seems to be showing his age on the cross-country course. And how on Earth is Jules supposed to manage a barn, a dozen kids, and her own competition schedule?

This time, Jules might be in over her head. With Pete away in California, new horse Confident Liar proving to be a difficult ride, and the co-op moms feeling their oats now that she’s a big-time upper-level rider, Jules is feeling the pinch from every direction. Luckily, Jules has old friends to count on. But as the summer heats up, it seems like everyone wants a piece of Jules - and she doesn’t know if she can turn in a winning season for Alachua Eventing Co-op…or even for herself.
