From the bestselling author of Mad Love and American Girl comes a propulsive new thriller with a spectacular twist and an acclaimed cast.

They were best friends forever. Until the night one of them disappeared.

In 2010, Brooke Lowry, Carrie Hollis, and Eve Shay were inseparable. But on the Fourth of July, Eve vanished—her case never solved. Brooke moved away, but Carrie couldn’t let go, her obsession driving her to become the Chief of Police.

Now, fifteen years later, just as Carrie is about to close Eve’s case for good, an anonymous call provides a chilling new lead. And–within days–a man’s body is hauled in by a fishing boat. His murder is linked to a hotel a few miles away–where the guest in the room next door was none other than Brooke Lowry.

Brooke was there that night—with her lover. They heard something through the wall. Something violent. But they couldn’t say a word without revealing their affair.

As Carrie digs deeper into both cases, Brooke scrambles to cover her tracks, and Eve’s own voice begins to rise from the past. Together, their stories unravel a web of lies, betrayals, and long-buried secrets that lead to the shocking truth of what happened to Eve Shay.

This story contains mature themes. Listener discretion is advised.

Editorial Review

Check-in to your next listening obsession
Wendy Walker has done it again! She’s given us not one, not two, but three fantastic unreliable narrators—my favorite kind—in this twisty thriller that grabbed me from the first chapter and never let go. Set in a small coastal town, The Room Next Door starts with a bang. A couple having an affair in a hotel overhear a possible crime occur in the room next door. The investigation into what happens next cleverly ties into the unsolved disappearance of a young woman years before. Julia Whelan, Elizabeth Evans, and Bebe Wood lead a full cast of performers, giving voice to three best friends who once shared everything, until one of them went missing. Now, 15 years later, shocking new evidence surfaces that calls everything into question. Clear your calendar, because I guarantee you'll devour this in one sitting just like I did. —Margaret H., Audible Editor

Best book I’ve read in quite a while. Reminded me a lot of my awe for “Gone Girl”. Great story and perfection in timing with the release of details as the story unfolds.

Well woven for twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Very good story that's well told. Loved all of the voices; none grated on my nerves. The story got me more than once & the killer really surprises! This is a really good audiobook that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. So much so, if you want to sleep, don't wait until bedtime to listen.
