Resumen del Editor
Stop feeling not good enough, stop believing everything is always your fault, stop telling yourself you don't deserve to be loved. If this sounds like you there is a good chance you were raised by a parent on the "Continuum of Narcissism". Parents who either had to always be right, appear perfect, were self-absorbed, or thrived on power and control.
If you weren't raised by a person like that, you have at least been in a long term relationship with someone with narcissistic traits. Maybe this relationship started out great. That person really 'got you', you were sure you found your soulmate or best friend because of how special and loved you felt, and maybe you even felt those lovely butterflies in your stomach when you were around them. However, those great feelings slowly eroded. You ended up in a place of desperately trying to regain their love and approval so you could feel those butterflies again. It could be that you now find yourself very isolated because your friends and family were in some way unacceptable to your soulmate/best friend. There are many ways the seeds of these negative cognitions about ourselves get planted in our mind, body, and soul. What happens next is those seeds get watered and take root. It could be by a critical boss, a mean sibling, or even a guilting adult child of yours. No matter how these weeds in the garden of your soul get planted, it's time to start pulling those suckers out by the root.
So you may be asking, how do I know this about your life? Because that unspoken negative self-talk that goes on in your head are lies you have been told. No one is "Not good enough", no one is always at fault, and no one is undeserving of love! They are lies you have been told so you get smaller and the other person gets bigger. That way you fit nicely under their thumb. This book was written to help you crawl out from under their thumb (and maybe numerous thumbs), and learn how to take care of yourself.

Historia
To grow in recovery, we must grow up emotionally. This means getting honest with ourselves and facing up to the self-defeating thoughts and actions that put our sobriety at risk. Although there are as many ways to mess up recovery as there are alcoholics and addicts, some general themes exist, which include: confusing self-concern with selfishness; not making amends; using the program to try to become perfect; not getting help for relationship troubles; and believing that life should be easy. Allen Berger explores the 12 most commonly confronted beliefs and attitudes that can sabotage recovery.
