Resumen del Editor

The Luke Sackville Crime Thriller series continues…The stakes could not be higher

Ex-DCI Luke Sackville investigates a link between a senior executive and a large bet, little realizing that what he is seeing is the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the surface sinister forces are at work, and when he learns of a tragedy following a rugby match Luke spots a possible connection. He sets his team to work and they uncover a gambling syndicate whose cold and ruthless leader will stop at nothing to achieve his aims. It becomes a race against time as they battle to unmask the guilty.

Lethal Odds is the fifth book in the series of crime thrillers featuring ex-DCI Luke Sackville and his Ethics Team. It’s perfect for fans of JD Kirk, LJ Ross, Jack Gatland, Alex Smith, Rachel McLean and JM Dalgliesh.

Plenty of action and intrigue in this thriller.

Lethal Odds was my introduction to both S J Richards’ storytelling and the Luke Sackville Crime Thrillers. When I was offered a review copy of the audiobook from the author, I honestly didn’t have any idea what I was getting into by accepting it. Well, sure Lethal Odds is book five in the series and having never read or listened to the four previous stories I felt a bit like a fish out of water for a couple of chapters. But about three chapters into the story I was deeply ensconced in the story and began to get a feeling for each of the characters and their strengths as well as possible weaknesses.

I really enjoyed the story because along with being an action-packed who-dun-it, the story is multifaceted, so it forces the reader to think about the events and who is driving everything. Honestly, I had no idea who Mr. Smith was until he was exposed in the story, infect I couldn’t even reliably predict his identity.

Another introduction was the narrator, Samuel James. Samuel does an excellent job bringing the story to life and gives voice to each of the characters to the point I knew each of them by voice as they spoke.

Would I suggest you duplicate my hopping into the series at the fifth book, maybe not unless you can set aside the obvious lack of background on the characters. If you can just accept, they have existed for some time and have history with each other this book works as a stand-alone story. Of course, it also created a desire for me to go back and experience the first four books.
