Resumen del Editor

Is your office a place of soul-destroying negativity? Shola Richards - keynote speaker, award winner, and creator of The Positivity Solution blog - is about to change that...forever.

"My mission was clear: I needed to fix the problems facing the workplace. As quickly as I came up with my new mission, I came up with the solution: We need to treat each other better. Period."

Shola Richards had reached the end of the road: after nearly two years at a soul-sucking job, he felt numb and suicidal. So he quit and devoted himself to nothing less than transforming the workplace, turning it into a space of respect, courtesy, and endless energy. Making Work Work focuses on inspiring current and future leaders to start a movement that will banish on-the-job bullying, put meaning back into work, and enhance coworkers' happiness and engagement. Richards, whose popular blog has a worldwide following, explains why inaction is insane, why we must move forward with positivity, and why the "abc" employees (asshats, bullies, and complainers) are so destructive. This motivational guide will stay in listeners' hearts and minds long after they finish listening to it.

Great Book!

It was like a breath of fresh air listening to this book. My workplace is an unhealthy and toxic environment. This book helped me realize there is hope for a better situation and that I am not powerless. The book is well written and the narration is pleasant. I highly recommend this book!

I wanted to like this audio book

The sample snippet on Audible sold me because lately I’ve been feeling burned out and powerless to the point that it’s worrisome even though I love the actual work I do. I want to make it work and to be part of the solution at my workplace and every workplace I go to. But hearing this audio book, I am not getting what I need and I don’t think I’ll finish. There is too much repetition, too much belaboring the point that there’s a problem (we know if we are reading this), too much pleading to believe that positivity is the answer. I don’t want loads of examples of what’s wrong, I just want to know what to try — specifically. Also it’s seems that the author quit a toxic job and wrote this book, but I’m not clear whether he ever actually has solved the problems he says are solvable. And I couldn’t relate to many of his examples, which were far more overt than what I’ve experienced. Worse, he quotes MLK with a line that says something like, “I also have a dream” and then he shares his dream and I’m sorry but just no. This dream cannot be compared with that of MLK’s. It’s important to make work culture healthier but comparable it’s not *that* revolutionary.

I think if this book is revised to avoid repetition, to focus more on practical approach, and to include less exaggerated language, it has potential. I don’t want to rag on the author because his story matters. I just think the approach needs a shift. I imagine if I could have more patience there may be some gems I didn’t get to. But as I’m burning out, I need to focus my time on finding solutions pretty fast. I see others love this book and so maybe I’m just a big ol’ grump!
