Resumen del Editor

For centuries, mankind has searched for nonhuman civilizations in the cosmos. These lost alien societies have finally been discovered—but they were destroyed long ago.

Devin Starn starts off as a lowly rock rat aboard Borag, a mining ship working the dangerous end of the asteroid belt. Slowly, he gains prestige and purpose. When an alien base is uncovered, however, he must risk everything to protect his ship and her crew.

What wiped out all the civilizations that came before humanity?

Find out in B. V. Larson’s Red Company: First Strike!, a pulse-pounding, high-stakes military sci-fi adventure.

A slow burn should eventually actually burn

With the Undying Mercenaries, the main characters are total Main Characters, and even when a situation is emerging or the story is working up to an event of some kind, the dialog is entertaining in one way or other. But I felt no affection for the characters here. I got 3 hours from the end of the book and just gave up waiting for something interesting to happen or for a reason to care if any of the people lived or died.

The 1st Formic Wars, really?

The narration is, as always, top notch. But I kept hearing the voices of Carlos, and Klaver, and Winslade, etc. It was distracting. Should have chosen a different narrator for the new series.

As to the story - for the first part of the book I kept waiting for Lem Jukes to make an appearance. And I kept thinking that all we needed now was to make the aliens ants. And viola!

The first formic wars trilogy by OSC was a true magnum opus. (The second was a dumpster fire from which there is no recovery- hence no 3rd book in the trilogy.) BV Larson is a fantastic author. One of my favorites. But when you make a story so similar to a triumph such as the 1st formic wars, the listener cannot help but make comparisons. While this book was very good, it does not rise to the level of Earth Unaware. Which is why I only gave it 4 stars. If Mr Larson reads this - I'm sorry. I really do enjoy your work. Perhaps if OSC had collaborated with you (and maybe Craig Alanson) he wouldn't have ruined the 2nd trilogy (and his career). Perhaps as this this series progresses you can show him how it's done.

I also would have preferred more character development. Seems as if the story was pared down to some arbitrary length for some reason and the depth of the characters was lost. While this book was good - it was not Swarm good.

Great book, new take on things

Great story, didn't go the way I thought at all. Easily a series I can follow along. Well written, excellent narrated (even though I heard characters from other books a little, it worked ok), and all in all it felt fresh. Highly recommended!

Too much political BS

I would look somewhere else. Credits and not cheep so don't waste them on crap!!!

I usually like BV's stories but this has a huge problem and you probably won't be bothered by it till the 3rd book where the political BS gets too great to continue...

I want books that take me away from the daily corruption of our government, not ones that ruin a good story with this BS

Asking for my credit back!!!

Low intellect space sci fi

I was hoping this would be more like undying mercenaries but this storyline is really basic and the main character has a particularly moronic way with of speaking.

Disjointed story line.

Interesting characters. Some long boring stretches of dialogue. The genetic mutation twist was interesting but not explored enough in this initial book.
