Resumen del Editor
Just as there are three dimensions of the physical world (height, width, and depth), there are three dimensions of the interpersonal world - power, love, and mindfulness. How well we learn to navigate them directly corresponds to how well we live our lives and how happy and fulfilled we feel.
Human reactivity is the source of most of our interpersonal problems and pain. The 3 Dimensions of Emotions introduces the concept of working the triangle, a unique practice that provides a compelling yet practical road map that can help you move from painful reactivity to productive proactivity in your relationships. And it works just as successfully for a CEO of a Fortune 500 company as it does for a parent struggling to communicate with a teenager.
The 3 Dimensions of Emotions is a new way to understand emotional intelligence and find your relational "sweet spot" - the dynamic intersection of power, love, and mindfulness. It will also help you to:
- Manage difficult people in your life
- Improve your emotional intelligence as a partner, parent, and friend
- Improve your emotional intelligence as a leader at work

Kristin Neff changed how we talk about self-care with her enormously popular first book, Self-Compassion. Now, 10 years and many studies later, she expands her body of work to explore a brand-new take on self-compassion. Although kindness and self-acceptance allow us to be with ourselves as we are, in all our glorious imperfection, the desire to alleviate suffering at the heart of this mindset isn't always gentle, sometimes it's fierce.

Despite our best-laid plans, life can often be difficult, disappointing, and stressful. Consequently, when things don’t go right, we are often left in a state of emotional chaos, dealing with feelings like anger, anxiety, frustration, and doubt, which can cloud our perspective and negatively affect the way we live our lives. But in this inspiring book, Phillip Moffitt shows us that we need not be at the mercy of our emotions. By cultivating a responsive mind rather than a reactive one, we can achieve a state of emotional clarity.

Freedom from unnecessary suffering is the goal of both Buddhism and modern psychotherapy, yet each approaches this intention from a very different perspective. "Buddhist practice helps us awaken to a well-being that is independent of our circumstances," explains Bruce Tift, "while Western psychotherapy helps us bring our disowned experience into awareness in order to live in a more skillful and satisfying way."

Success in work, love, and life depends on developing habits that activate the powerful prefrontal cortex when we need it most. Unfortunately, under stress, the human brain tends to revert to emotional habits we forged in toddlerhood: blame, denial, avoidance, reacting to a jerk like a jerk, and turning our connections into cold shoulders - or worse. In Soar Above, renowned relationship expert Dr. Steven Stosny offers a groundbreaking formula for building new, pressure-resistant habits.

Powerful and Valuable Book
Would you listen to The 3 Dimensions of Emotions again? Why?
This is a very powerful book. Dr. Sam Alibrando has tackled one of the most complex issues facing any human: how to recognize, understand, control, and manage our emotional responses to positive and negative experiences. He does it in a simple, articulate, warm, humorous, and concise way. Not only does he provide clear explanations of some of the science and literature about human behavior and psychology, he uses examples and stories that all of us can related to, whether related to our job, our boss, our co-workers, our spouse or partner, our family, and our friends. He also provides some easy-to-use tools for self-assessment, evaluation, and planning. This is clearly the product of decades of experience and thoughtful insight drawn from his professional and personal experience. For anyone who continues to try to be his or her "best self," this will be time well spent.
What other book might you compare The 3 Dimensions of Emotions to and why?
The author references works by Eckhart Tolle which are appropriate. However, other books that describe recent advances in the study of neurology and human behavior also apply.
Which character – as performed by Don Hagen – was your favorite?
Not applicable
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No - I felt there is so much to consider, it is best digested in pieces.
