Plot line is good; hard to get past narrator

I enjoyed the plotline of this and the first book. But the narration is distracting; the story is set in Pennsylvania but the narrator is clearly not from the United States and uses a regional dialect from elsewhere that is inconsistent with American English (pronouncing been as “bee-n”) and full on mispronouncing other words (Nike is mispronounced as if it rhymes with Mike). Were this set outside the US, this wouldn’t bother me as its part of setting the stage; however, when the narration sounds Canadian it’s hard to have to keep reminding yourself you’re in PA. If there are more books in the series, I hope someone else is used.

This has been my 2nd read and I'm totally revising my review. Yes there are a lot of characters and yes it's many twists can be a bit confusing but overall Josie's character grows. Her flaws and fears become clearer. They just make her more "real. "
As for the narrator that bugged me so much during my first read through, I think I find in many ways, that too makes the character of Josie come to life, adding a grittyness and uniqueness. Definitely glad I decided to re-read this series. Thanks Lisa

Good story, Narrator, not so much!

I liked the story but was pretty distracted by the narrator. First of all, the voice didn’t sound like a seasoned cop turned police chief. She sounded like a high school kid. Secondly, she mispronounces so many words it became very distracting. She read the script and mispronounced words...I wonder if anyone listened to it before releasing it. There should have been some retakes!

she uses words like bean instead of been. Figer instead of figure. I honestly missed the story.

I enjoyed it, especially while driving in the car, and on long walks. Story line was good as well as the narrator.

I would recommend this book

Enjoyed, despite the narrator

I enjoyed this book and first the book. The only thing is the narrator sounds like a high school girl. Actually she sounded more immature in the last book, and it made me hard to like the main character.

I was very distracted by the word “anything” which she pronounces as “enithin”. Also, “murdera” instead of murderer and “et” instead of “ate”. Is this some sort of Pennsylvania accent? Okay, maybe I’m being petty. It did distract me from the story though.

Maybe I’ll read the next one instead of listening to it.

I really enjoyed this book I enjoyed the storyline and all the twisting turns mystery

The narrator, ay yi yi!

I’m really enjoying books by Lisa Regan but will have to just read them, no more narration. Eilidh Beaton’s pronunciation just gets on my nerves. Anything is “anythin,” been is “bean,” ate is “et,” scone is “scun,” on and on. I tried to give her the benefit of doubt by finding out where she’s from, no luck! (and I love to read, I’m no computer expert) If she’s from another country that’s one thing and I would enjoy it more but her accent sounds American without any inflection of another country however some of her words sound like she’s from England. She has a lovely voice and I would enjoy the books more if her pronunciation made sense.

Tired of the narration reviews!

Normally a person would start with book one in a series. Using this logic why are people purchasing another book narrated by the same person if they hated it? For all who wrote negative reviews for narration do us all a favor and don't buy anymore from this performer. I am tired of weeding through the nonsense. I want to actually read what the story is about.

I love this series. It's not a "in the end they went off into the sunset together" type of series. I have already bought books 3 & 4 and hopefully there will be more to follow.

Great Story! Worst Narrator Ever!

I have listened to hundreds of Audible books. This is one of the best stories, but hands down, the worst performance of all.

The performer’s voice and inflection make the main character sound like a petulant teen girl who has no redeeming qualities when if you listen to the story, she is complex and should be liked and cheered for. Making it worse is the narrator mispronunciation of tons of words.

Stories are supposed to be believable which actors accomplish by playing characters as they genuinely are. That doesn’t happen here. Who can believe a character is from the USA when they can’t correctly pronounce Maryland, ate, Aaron, and many many other words.

Where are the directors, producers, and editors who should have caught these issues?

I had the same complaints about the first book but got this one because I liked the story and wanted to push through because I read that there is a different narrator for later books in the series. If not for the future change of narrator, I would have skipped right over this book.
