Acerca de esta escucha

Oxford, Spring - 1354.

When the series of accidents to the building of the chapel at Queen’s College begin, they do not appear a cause for concern, but they grow more serious, and stonemasons are injured. Nicholas Elyot becomes involved after it is discovered that an intruder has reached the college by way of his garden. When Jordain Brinkylsworth’s youngest student goes missing, it seems at first that his disappearance is unconnected, yet he is one of the ‘poor boys’ supported by Queen’s. Surely this serious and studious boy cannot be responsible for the troubles?

And then someone is killed.

sadly the last

i loved this series. And sadly, the author has passed so this is the last in that series. as with the preceding 5 it's beautifully written, historically accurate and well narrated. it ends on a hopeful upbeat note but one can only imagine the future of the characters one has come to love.

Ugh! Ends on a cliffhanger!

Well, it ends with us patiently waiting for these couples to work things out...
Oh, who am I kidding? I won't be patiently waiting for anything. I never have and I never will...

A main character to admire, a well-wrought setting

Nicholas is a wonderful, kind, thoughtful man, and Medieval Oxford is expressed beautifully by the author. I have enjoyed this series, and though the author is sadly gone, I feel she left us enough hope for the future of the main characters. The narration is impeccable.

LOVE THESE

I like them for the history, Its fun to read about "normal" people in the medieval times. These are not kings or noblemen and women. These are shop keepers and laborers. If you want mysteries, these are not for you because the "killers" are easily discovered. But if you're looking for good fun reading about what it was like to live during the 1300s, these are GREAT! I am looking forward to any others she may write.

With heavy heart...

I write this last review of the final installment in the Oxford Medieval Mystery series. Ann Swinfen died unexpectedly, just after this book was published.
This book met all my expectations and more. It was bittersweet reading, first, then listening to Philip Battley’s wonderful narration of the story.
All of the excitement, intrigue, and heartwarming storytelling she put into every book I’ve read by her, was present. She must have been an incredible lecturer because every one I’ve read, always teaches me something about Oxford during the 1500s, just after the pestilence. I swear she could make instructions for changing a flat tire interesting!! And this time it was building such structures as Churches, Castles and other large buildings.
Her characters came to life for me with every book — filled with excitement and intrigue. What a wonderful writer and gifted storyteller she was!!
If you love Medieval mysteries, like Cadfael, you’ll love Ann Swinfen ‘s books. Her enthusiasm for whatever time she was writing about came through time and again.
My heartfelt sympathy to her husband, family, and friends.
And my thanks to Ann Swinfen for sharing these wonderful tales with us.

Thank you Ann Swinfen

I really enjoyed the stories. Ma Swinfen did a lovely job of helping one to imagine life in medieval Europe… Even if it was a little bit idealized. I’m going to miss Nicholas and Emma and Meg and all the others. I would have loved to have heard their stories play out. I loved the characters. 💖 Good journeys Ms Swinfen.
