Resumen del Editor

Three Rivers is the fourth in a chilling series of audiobooks that will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin and Helen H Durrant into David Blake devotees.

A body caught on the end of a mast, another skewered by a rhond hook and a chain of evidence Tanner simply cannot accept. As a twisting gale howls its way over Barton Broad, DS Jenny Evans joins a handsome old friend to help rescue the crew of an overturned boat. But when they discover a body, snagged on the end of the mast, one murder soon follows another, leaving DI John Tanner facing a race against time, desperate to prove that the most obvious suspect isn’t who everyone seems to think it is.

Characters are flawed

I have liked the series so far, but agree with other reviewers that have said that the characters are becoming less likable. I was hoping they’d find that Jenny committed the crimes. Some huge relationship red flags and yet he proposed at the end?

Character really annoying

Let me start by saying mystery/murder was very good as the others in the series. However, the chracters have evolved for the worse. Tanner needs to be sent to anger management and a communication workshop. Jenny needs to see a shrink about her verbal abusive behavior, overruse of sarcasm that has morphed to become downright rude and that she seems emotionally stuck in high school. The book refers to Jenny as smart yet she seem like she can't comprehend typical police procedure/policy so of course resorts to be rude and dismissive. Somehow it appears ok for Jenny to indulge in thoughts and hang out with a younger, cuter old friend, but Tanner cannot even look the direction of an attractive colleague who he was forced to work with. Back to the story, I was able to guess the bad guy right away but the story had enough twist and turns to make me doubt. The ending was a bit of a surprise wtih bad guy and - SPOILER - Literally the worse proposal ever recorded. Not even once in Jenny's life could she not say anything loving but has to be snippy about the entire event.

Implausible

Johnathan Keeble does a great job. I preferred the previous books. Hopefully, the next one is not so unbelievable.

Great narration - juvenile characters

The narration was great and the story line were great! The characters were somewhat juvenile. Seemed more interested in their love life and each other’s feelings than the victims. This author also seems to think female police officers are immature and unprofessional. The cases are interesting so I’ll try one more and hope he exhibits more respect for them and all of the characters have grown up.

Another great read..

Wow! This was a good one. Murders going on all over the place and that same killer was doing all he could to put the blame on Jenny Evans, John Tanner’s partner/girlfriend, while everyone she worked with did their best to clear her name. It was a really good story.

No romance to speak of and the F-bomb was used 4 times.

As to the narration: Jonathan Keeble is simply fabulous!

Not up to previous books

The narration was excellent but the story not so much. Tanner and Jenny need to focus on cases other than their own.

MISSING EDITOR

The narrator was, as he is with just about every other audiobook he narrates, excellent. Unfortunately, the author’s continued obstinate use, even in 2020, of the outdated term “girl” when referring to seasoned professional police women throughout his otherwise interesting story (and his writing the main female character as a whimpering, naive child during moments of danger) will keep many readers from purchasing any more of his novels. Where was the editor for this book?!

Great listen

A well done British police procedural series with a thread of engaging characters and plot connection from book to book. While I’ve enjoyed listening to them in sequence, each book stands on its own. Excellent narration.

I REALLY hate Jenny as the series progresses

I just don't understand Jenny. How can the writer create character that is SO SMART she needed through her exams and a passing grade is just a formality, but it's so frustratingly stupid that she can't wrap her head around the concept of making it a bit more difficult to be framed. She's just frustrating, childish, annoying, and so very very stupid.

"All the girls knew James."

The fourth book in the DI Tanner and DS Jenny Evans detective series set in Norfolk, Three Rivers is more than just a murder mystery, it also follows the ongoing relationship between the couple and the impact that their personal lives has on their work relationship, and vice versa. Whilst the mystery storyline itself is initially intriguing, despite the culprit being rather obvious, it does feel unlikely. But the personal interplay between Tanned and Evans, though emotionally somewhat immature, does hold a sense of distinct possibility and was fun to observe as an outsider. The vicarious sightseeing of Norfolk, too, brings pleasure to the reading.

Narration by Jonathan Keeble was, as always, superb, perfectly paced with just the right infusion of emotion, good, expressive modulation and individually identifiable voices for each protagonist. The

This is an easy, enjoyab!e and undemanding book, probably best read in series sequence but still stand alone. Recommended for anyone enjoying location based, character centred police procedurals..
