Astonishing
This author is a highly experienced teacher and a keen student of anatomy. He has a sense of humour, is always well-prepared and treats his class as adults with a minimum of yoga jargon. Experienced yoga practitioners can learn from his and beginners will not be intimidated. Highly recommended.

A surprisingly Audiobook!
The author know far more than my former neurologist who never even mentioned the vagus nerve to me. I have since learned it is possibly the core of my TMJ, chronic anxiety, migraines, fibromyalgia and inflammation issues.

Not quite what I expected
Right before I got this book, I tried listening to Dr. Porges' book about polyvagal theory but it was too hard to follow with all of the scientific jargon. This book starts off putting things in simpler terms which I liked but then I felt like it droned on and on about polyvagal theory in ways it didn't need to. I expected the book to cover the theory and then spend a large chunk of time providing exercises but really the exercises are a VERY small part which was frustrating given the title of the book. I've been a meditator for several years so that part didn't offer me anything new. And the last part of the book was basically pushing the idea of "thinking positively" which I thought was weird given none of us with trauma histories can really just "think our way out" of our problems. I have listened to a lot of self improvement and psychology books and I still learned things I hadn't known before. I enjoyed the section explaining depression & anxiety disorders - although brief, I hadn't heard them explained that way before. Particularly that depression is your body's way of shutting down or almost hibernating when it is under extreme emotional stress. I also thought her explanation of the way antidepressants work was useful. Also as an empath and highly sensitive person I very much enjoyed the chapter on this as well.

Very useful guide!
This Vegus nerve should be called the 'good boy' for the functions it performs for and serves us in so many ways. I am grateful for this super complex and truly miraculous system we are blessed with. Let us praise, thank and meditate on it so it keeps functioning well. I am overwhelmed by watching how one nerve can manage so many organs.

Great
I have finally understood what heart rate variability means and what it does for us.
I always thought that deep slow breathing was the best for us ... turns out i was wrong. Will definitively be training and very i am very grateful to be able to download the audio file on my phone. :)
