Resumen del Editor

Former FBI director James Comey takes listeners into the world of high finance and corporate espionage in this riveting thriller.

It's been two years since Nora Carleton left the job she loved at the US Attorney's Office to become lead counsel at Saugatuck Associates, the world's largest hedge fund. The career change also meant a change of scenery, relocating her to Westport, Connecticut, fifty miles north of New York City. But it was worth it to get her daughter, Sophie, away from the city. Plus, she likes the people she works with. Especially Helen, who recruited Nora because of her skills as an investigator.

Then, Nora's new life falls apart when a coworker is murdered and she becomes the lead suspect. Nora calls in her old colleagues from the US Attorney's Office, Mafia investigator Benny Dugan and attorney Carmen Garcia. To clear Nora's name, Benny and Carmen hunt for the true killer's motive, but it seems nearly everyone at Saugatuck has secrets worth killing for. As Benny sets out to interrogate her colleagues, Nora examines her history with the company to determine who set her up to take the fall.

Interesting premise

Narrator’s accents were not authentic. Sophie was more like a 5 year old than 8 yo.

Second book is just as good as the first!!

This second book in Comey’s Nora Carleton series was absolutely fantastic. I started listening to it this morning and finished it this evening
The story begins with Nora Carleton (the protagonist) leaving her job at the US Attorney’s office and taking a job her ex-husband’s new wife is responsible for getting her. She tells no one how she got the job. As soon as she arrives she already has an enemy. Seems he was next in line for her job and thinks she got simply because she’s a woman.
It’s not long before the one friend and superior is murdered. Her body is found in Nora’s boat. The weapon, a knife from the victim’s home is found in Nora’s cutlery drawer.
One police officer wants to nail her. The other can’t believe such an intelligent woman and former US Attorney could be so dumb as to leave a trail leading right to her.
With the help of good friends in the FBI who have taken time from their own jobs, they begin the task of unraveling who could possibly hate a woman they barely know for murder. The story will keep you rivited until the end.

Cassandra Campbell does an OUTSTANDING job narrating.

This book has my This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!

Riveting!

mystery, crime-fiction, thriller, friends, friendship, frustration, family, family-dynamics, murder, investigations, framed, local-law-enforcement, contemporary, lawyers, audiobook, wealthy, off-duty-law-enforcement, trust-issues, unpleasant-co-worker, unpleasant-suspect, unputdownable, secrets, lies, dossiers*****

The lawyers and law enforcement get to be the good guys.
*Nora is Corp Counsel for a firm that prides itself on truth/transparency. Until one of the major players is murdered and Nora is in the frame with impossibly unrealistic "evidence". The "good guys (any gender) come out of the woodwork to help her and one even finds evidence of wrongdoing by the victim that smells a lot like fodder for blackmail. Now the investigation really heats up! Great read!
*Cassandra Campbell demonstrates her abilities as a voice actor by mimicry of accents, differentiation of characters, and interpretation of character's emotions.
*I requested and received a free temporary audio ARC from HighBridge Audio via NetGalley. Thank you!
Now I bought it on Audible as well as Book 1

I liked everything. So much detail. The voices are excellent. Can’t wait for Director Comey’s next book
