    It was great to meet Nicole, she got sober totally differently than I did. In 2020, upon admitting to herself that alcohol was not serving her or leading to the life she wanted to create, Nicole set out on a journey to figure out what things would look like alcohol-free. After an initially challenging time of change and introspection, Nicole eventually discovered the vibrant and rapidly growing alcohol-free community, both online and in person. This discovery—coupled with the realization that her new AF life held more beauty, depth, and joy than she ever imagined—inspired the creation of AFTER Magazine in 2022. The magazine’s mission is threefold: 1) to support people who might be searching for answers around their drinking and feeling alone, 2) to normalize sobriety and an alcohol-free lifestyle, and 3) to show just how amazing life can be AFTER giving up alcohol. I am an alcoholic and the way I got sober was in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous, in fact that was really the only way in 2006! I broke up with alcohol for good almost 18 years ago and my life has been absolutely amazing ever since! I don’t poo-poo people getting sober in other ways.     This week is the 4th of July and what better way to celebrate our Country's birthday than by having veteran Michael Le Buhn on the show. Michael is a chaplain, a veteran, a dad, a son, and a person in recovery. His story brought me to tears a couple of times. Michael is absolutely amazing! Taking time to think of our freedoms and to say thank you is what being an American is all about. Chaplain Michael Le Buhn received care from the VA and credits his therapist there for helping him get to the place where he is today. Michael has so much courage and faith, we all can learn something from his story. I can’t thank him enough for serving our country and showing us that no matter how hard it was for him to reach out for help, he did it! Michael didn't have a lot of choices after high school and enlisting in the military sounded like the best option. Where he grew up no one really went to college. His story starts in the military but today not only did he go to college but he also got his master’s degree. Again I can’t thank him enough for coming on BLS.     What hasn’t happened yet for you? I haven’t gone to jail yet, what haven’t you done yet? Think about when you are drinking; all bets are off! Once you ingest alcohol your decision making is impaired and your motor skills don’t react as quickly as they would if you were sober. But we don’t think about that when we pick up a drink. In my opinion when we pick up a drink all we think about is that we can’t wait to feel the buzz. The warm feelings, the false sense that alcohol gives us. I know it made life more manageable for me. Everything was a little better when I had a drink in my hand during my active alcoholism. You don’t have to live like this anymore! There is a solution! God! Prayer! Meditation! Friendship! Hope!
