  • Chats in the Attic - Emily M
    Oct 20 2023

Emily is currently awaiting patiently for her diagnosis. She talks about what made her think she had ADHD including feeling like she was “just a bit eccentric” her whole life. Emily talks about the rollercoaster of coming to diagnosis and the process of psychologically understanding yourself better. As well as that we talk about the JOY and validation of meeting someone who matches your energy. There is, very importantly, some more animal love in this one- this time snails! This was such a lovely chat to end the series on and Emily ends it with the absolutely most perfect message. (And I’m not just saying that to get you to listen to the end… although it’s totally worth it 😉)

    C/W- Anxiety and Depression mentions

Chats in the Attic is a ten part audio series bought to you by ADHD: Let's Talk. They are 30 (ish) minute episodes chatting with late-diagnosed women with ADHD about their experiences of ADHD and how it looks for them. Raising awareness, busting stereotypes and increasing understanding, this audio series will be valuable regardless of whether you have ADHD, are curious about ADHD or just want to know more, and offers a voice and insight into personal accounts of ADHD.

For ADHD awareness month, one episode a day will be released from October 11th until October 21st.

ADHD: Let's Talk is a movement set up by Roxanne Rogers, an MRes student researching gender and ADHD, following her own ADHD diagnosis at 32. Through this social media platform, she shares the findings from her own research, and people are invited to share their own ADHD stories, to increase awareness and understanding around ADHD, particularly in groups that have not researched or given a voice thus far. • Chats in the Attic - Charlotte L
    Oct 19 2023

This episode is an example of when two neurodivergent brains meet and basically just totally unmask. This chat really was a lot of fun, Charlotte is larger than life and had so much to share. We giggle throughout most of it, even the dark bits, but please don’t think we aren’t taking the topics seriously; sometimes you really have just gotta laugh! We discuss everything from coping with life with undiagnosed ADHD to Sam Thompson (of course!). The bits in between include Charlotte reflecting on how she went undiagnosed until adulthood, when she has two neurodivergent siblings who were diagnosed in childhood, and the effects chronic people pleasing can have in your life. I really hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. And finally, can someone please tell us whether the saying is, “Get your goat?!”

Just PSA- There are points I could have edited out where I  stumble over my words a lot, but I kept it in, because this is part of my tired, over-stretched ADHD brain and it feels more authentic to me, and I think other people would find it relatable too😊

  • Chats in the Attic- Amy
    Oct 18 2023

I was so excited to chat to Amy, who is joining us all the way from America! This was such a special chat and Amy was so inspiring, really embracing her vulnerability. Hearing the situation in the US was unique and eye opening and we discussed everything from the process of diagnosis to treatment and the overallattitude towards ADHD in the US (from Amy’s perspective!). We also chat about Covid and the impact this had on ADHD diagnoses as well as some of those lesser-known ADHD traits such as picking up on the energy as soon as you walk in the room and the effect this can have on your own mood/ experience. Plus, we have the first Chats in the Attic exclusive with the release of Amy’s book title- very exciting!
You can find Amy at @amy_joynt1 for updates on when her wonderful book will be released- keep your eyes peeled.

C/W- Covid, mentions of suicide, anxiety, alcohol addiction

  • Chats in the Attic- Laura
    Oct 17 2023

Laura has such a wealth of knowledge and experience, and this chat was just so enlightening. She is a real advocate for supporting neurodiversity in the birth space- something I can personally say is much needed. As well as this she talks about boredom and hobby/job hopping, something that is fairly common amongst ADHDers. Laura also chats about the difficulties of navigating a relationship when you have ADHD and your partner doesn’t, as well the difficulties and advantages of raising a family with ADHD. I felt like I gained so much just by talking to Laura, and I hope you feel the same too!

You can find her on Instagram at @the_adhd_midwife which also has a link to her own podcast which is worth a listen, along with colleague Louise- “She thrives ADHD”.

  • Chats in the Attic - Faye
    Oct 16 2023

Since receiving her ADHD diagnosis Faye makes no apologies for her “OTT-ness” in every aspect of her life, any more, and quite rightly so. Faye would be classed as your stereotypical “hyperactive” ADHDer, yet she still didn’t receive her diagnosis until her 20s. She speaks so candidly about why this could be and how much diagnosis meant to her leading to a greater self- acceptance and understanding of herself. Furthermore, she discusses the RSD and imposter syndrome she feels, and the damage this can still cause for her. Faye was an absolute star, and there are some real gems in this episode. Most of all, if we are "too much" then GO…FIND…LESS!!

  • Chats in the Attic - Anj
    Oct 15 2023

Anj’s joy and positivity is infectious and her perspective on life is so refreshing. She had so much wisdom to share. As well as discussing how the ADHD label is positive for her, and the role perfectionism/ planning has played in her life as a byproduct of ADHD, Anj also touches on a subject that hasn’t had a lot of focus historically but is an important one- the relationship between HRT and ADHD. Also, what prize would everyone want for being diagnosed with ADHD?! You can find Anj at @adhdingwithanj on Instagram.

  • Chats in the Attic - Natalie
    Oct 14 2023

Anybody else up for starting the Spider Appreciation Society (SAS)?! Natalie was so fun to talk to and had so much knowledge and experience to share. Relatively new to ADHD diagnosis, she is so insightful about her personal experiences and her journey so far. In particular, she touches on the interplay between trauma and ADHD, and her personal perspective on this, and the huge impact RSD has had on her life. Thank you so much to Natalie for her candidness and honesty. Also, please can someone with experience make the “Classic Executive Dysfunction Gal” t-shirt!

  • Chats in the Attic - Emily
    Oct 13 2023

This was an absolute whirlwind of a chat. Emily is a dynamic, interesting, compassionate force of nature! She has lived A LIFE, most of it with undiagnosed ADHD, and you just know she has a lot more stories to be told that I could have listened to for another several hours. Now, Emily is breaking generational patterns and has her own love filled, embraced, neurodivergent family and so much wisdom to share.  You can find her at @ancientadhd on Instagram and tiktok.
