Bart Torvik’s projections for the 2024-25 season came out recently and the Tar Heels are ranked number six, with RJ Davis as the top-rated player in the ACC. Are voters and computers seeing things about the Tar Heels that we aren’t that they continue to be ranked so high? Do we just have trauma from being preseason no. 1 in 2022-23?

UNC Freshman Drake Powell had an opportunity last week to participate in the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp, and took full advantage. Powell was a head-turner and ALSO signed with CAA for his NIL representation last week. The star of Drake Powell is continuing to rise, and that’s good news for the Heels.

RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau attended CP3 Elite Camp last week. More good opportunities to grow as individuals and as a backcourt duo. Davis, in particular, was pointed out for his ability to create separation for his shot.

Seven Tar Heels will be active on NBA Summer League rosters, including recent players like Harrison Ingram (Spurs), Armando Bacot (Jazz), and Cormac Ryan (Thunder).

It’s July and that means it’s finally time for Locked On Tar Heels’ annual UNC Men’s Basketball summer roster preview series, where we look at one Tar Heel every week until they’re all finished. On Sunday, German center Eric Reibe received a scholarship offer from North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis. Reibe is a seven-foot southpaw in the 2025 class, who plays in the States for the Bullis School in Maryland. Could Reibe be in line to be the next great center at North Carolina? Reibe becomes the 16th active UNC scholarship offer in the class of 2025. Four other Tar Heel targets have either made recent trips to Chapel Hill or will early this fall (Acaden Lewis, Jasper Johnson, Derek Dixon, and Braylon Mullins). CBS Sports confirmed that the CBS Sports Classic on December 21 will indeed be back at Madison Square Garden (second time in three seasons). With the calendar turning to July, Cal, SMU, and Stanford are all now officially part of the ACC.

Harrison Ingram was just selected as the 48th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft. His selection provides a blueprint for players to transfer to UNC and either resurrect their draft stock (like Ingram) or create draft buzz for the first time. Ingram is a success story (plus Carolina’s on-court success last season) that Coach Hubert Davis and his staff should sell to every recruit they come into contact with. Armando Bacot and Cormac Ryan, while not drafted, did sign Exhibit 10 deals with the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder respectively. What about the current crop of Tar Heels – will any of them hear their names called in the 2025 NBA Draft? Ian Jackson? Drake Powell? Elliot Cadeau? RJ Davis? Cade Tyson?

We are just about two months away from kicking off the 2024 college football season. While Drake Maye is gone, the North Carolina Tar Heels have hopes for another strong year. UNC has been unable to end strong the past two years, despite promising early season success. Will an improved defense help in that regard?
