  • ON THE CALL - TRIBUTE TO RENTON KIRK -Casting Director, Actor, Advisor, Capoeira master, Roller Blader

    Renton Kirk Learmont was a Trinidadian American who pursued a career as an actor trainer and casting director. He studied acting in Strasberg and Susan Batson in LA and NY and was represented by the Carson Organization. Renton was also a strong swimmer, swing dancer, roller-skater and Brazilian martial artist. Renton unexpectedly passed away at age 34 in 2004. His memorial was held on October 3, 2004, at Riverside Memorial Chapel and was attended by over 500 friends, family, skaters, singers, drummers, Rumi poetry, steel pan player, and Capoeira music. GET A GRIP is the product of a short film entitled: THE END OF THE RUN which was screened at the NY FILM ANTHOLOGY + SAN FRANCISCO FESTIVAL. It was written by Renton, in which he played a NY quad skater whose life spirals out of control because of alcohol and prescription drugs. The film consisted of a diverse cast and varied story lines, addressing issues of racism, nationalism, and sexuality. It was shot in the fall of 2023, Upstate and Manhattan with approximately 30 actors. Fifty cast and crew members came together to help with funding. Winsome is a highly respected Casting Director and Founder of the global casting agency, Winsome Sinclair and Associates. She began her career in the film and television industry under Spike Lee and has gained over 57 casting credits such as "Barber Shop," "All Eyez On Me," “The Cookout,” “Crooklyn,” "Hating Obama." Winsome is also a producer, motivational speaker, content creator, brand ambassador and published author of "You Are My SONshines". She has various credits on TV, film, commercials, concerts, and professional dance roller-skating, having worked with notable clients such as Aviccii, Black Girls Rock and AOL Summer Stage. Lynna is recognized by the media, with features in Daily News, LA Times, and Good Day NY. She has skated in Get A Grip, choreographed and casted in14 cities worldwide including France and Japan.     Ed Holley, a former youth baseball coach in New York City, met Kanard Lewis in 2010. After working together, Kanard's mother trusted Ed to care for him in case of an emergency. He became known as Preacherman through his soulful music blends prophetic lore with ironic metaphor. Preacherman's live performances are considered must-see underground gems in NYC. In addition to his work as Leasing and Marketing Manager at Central Park South Associates, Kenyatta is also the President and Principal Broker at Twelve By Two Real Estate Group, a position he has held since 2015. He leverages his extensive knowledge of the New York City rental/ sales real estate market, rental trends, neighborhood demographics, industry marketing platforms, and latest real estate technology to oversee all aspects of his clients' real estate deals. He is a highly successful negotiator and maintains solid relationships with his clients through excellent communication and customer service. Kenyatta has undergone extensive training in Fair Housing, Tenant-Landlord Laws, and HUD, HPD, and DHCR regulations. He is well-versed in rent stabilization and staff supervision and development. He obtained his Real Estate Broker Certification/License and Real Estate SalesPerson Certification/License from New York University, where he was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Freemasons.     Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Christopher Duncan has lived in England and the US, where he has been residing for 24 years, making him a - British South African American. Christopher is a multi-talented entertainment professional who graduated from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in 2006. With over 5 years of experience as a Financial Aid Advisor and Promoter at the same institution, Christopher has demonstrated his commitment to the arts in various roles. He is an artist with a passion for painting, writing, playing guitar, singing, and songwriting. Christopher's latest creations include a children's book and music recordings, which he is currently in the process of publishing, along with new artwork. Her passion for community work began in high school where she helped create dramas, comedies, and children’s plays that were taken to neighboring schools and nursing homes. Su's creative pursuits include stage set design, poetry, singing and songwriting. She has designed stage sets for The Alternative New Year's Day Spoken Word/Performance Extravaganza for over a decade, for over ten years, such as: P A'LANTE A LA LUZ (Charge Into The Light) and SOLARIS, which reflects thematic issues that the event has highlighted since its inception, such as the celebration and preservation of our planet’s natural wonders, climate change, social justice, the power of the spoken word and participated in many Figment events as a sculptor, on Governors Island with 7’ kinetic works titled Umbrella Reliquary l and ll and smaller pieces, utilizing found objects, emphasizing the importance of repurposing materials. As a jazz vocalist, musician and curator, Su has provided a platform for spoken word artists and musicians for 25 years through the Saturn Series. Currently, she is studying at the Art Students League and enjoys photography and painting still life and landscapes in watercolor.     Rich studied at CUNY Brooklyn College, then began DJing at underground clubs at the age of 20, at Taggaris, Wednesdays on E 86th St for example, after which he began a 2 year residency at Hippopotamus, an East Side nightspot. Meantime he worked part- time for a travel agency for 5 years, before moving to a computerized company, where he stayed for 8 years. He then worked at Kennedy travel in 1988 before buying the agency. In 2003 his company, Kennedy Travel, one of the first leisure agencies in the world to specialize in LGBTQ travel, became affiliated to First in Service Travel which has offices in NEW YORK, LA, MIAMI, BOGOTA, MADRID, TORONTO. During all this time, Rich has traveled all around the world from Russia to Morocco, to Europe to Asia, on trains, planes, ships.     Marilyn Reyes, born and raised in The Bronx, is a mother, grandmother, activist, public health worker, HARM REDUCTIONIST, STILL IN THE PURSUIT FOR EQUALITY /JUSTICE FOR ALL, and so much more.. “ALL I DO IS IN LOVE” is her mantra. Fueled by her experiences and her desire to improve job prospects for people coming home from incarceration, Marilyn has worked for Voices Of Community Activists & Leaders (VOCAL-NY), and a Board member since 2021 a statewide grassroots membership organization that builds power among low-income people affected by HIV/AIDS, the drug war, mass incarceration, and homelessness in order to create healthy and just communities. She served as a Peer Educator with New York Harm Reduction Educators (NYHRE), a non-profit organization devoted to promoting the health, safety, and well-being of marginalized, low-income persons who use drugs or engage in sex work, their loved ones, and their communities. Marilyn is also Co-Director for the Peer Network of New York (PNNY) and a member of the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. Marilyn's work uplifts her own experiences but also the experiences of so many women who have had their lives upended by the failed war on drugs and mass incarceration. Since 2018, Marilyn has also worked as a Wellness Advocate with the Relay Initiative, providing peer support services in NYC Emergency Departments for participants after they experience a non-fatal overdose. From it’s inception, punitive drug laws have served as a tool of oppression. They aggressively target people of color and people experiencing poverty.     Mrs. Tiona Laster, descendant of Bishop Rube and Alice Bethea in Albany, and grandparents, Reverend Zeddie and Jinette Mackie of Bethune, SC, also grew up in Albany. Tiona grew up in the church, a devout christian. She was married in Brooklyn and has lived there since, becoming a stay-at-home home-maker, raising 9 children: 6 girls – ages: 7,8,10,12,16/twins + 3 boys – ages: 4,13,24 At the age of 13, the twins, Zay’ani & Zay’ona began a YouTube channel to inspire their viewers through their singing, also in church., dancing, and poking fun at themselves. They also loved doing people’s hair & nails, and going out to service customers. On one such service-visit to someone, in a home they knew, drugs and sexual assault by 4 men occurred. This begins the saga for Tiona into a world she had never dreamed of being in, and has since prompted her to create a nonprofit - A Mother's Undying Love - advocating for the mothers who find themselves in dire situations and need the support.

    Curt Crane is a writer-producer-director, with more than 30 years of experience in developing, creating and producing TV commercials, corporate communications, streaming media, and feature length films. He created Curt Crane Productions, Inc., in New Jersey, where he grew up playing garage band rock-and-roll, hanging out around horses, and failing algebra several times. After high school, Curt survived seven years of banging around the professional rodeo circuit riding bulls, ultimately landing at Rutgers University where he earned an English degree. He then became a freelance writer, and soon began writing for the ad business, eventually becoming an agency creative director before moving on to the film production side of the business.

    Curt has directed, produced, written and co-written projects for a wide variety of well known national, international and regional names, including DirecTV, Motorola, NY Life, AIG, BASF, Nascar, and Geisinger. He has also created notable pro bono work for MADD, The American Cancer Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and many others.     Jan France was born in Chicago, to a mother who was an RN, a father who served in World War II, and a grandfather who served in World War I. She has devoted much of her life to GIVING AND SERVICE. In 1983, she conceived the idea for a wagon train in June 1983, organized, was the executive director, strategic planner, coordinator of a 3-year plan, and fund-raiser of $3 million dollars in sponsorships for the Texas Sesquicentennial Wagon Train, which covered 3,228 miles within the state, planned the route to 150 overnight stops in 150 communities to represent the 150 years since Texas’s independence, created the logo, did the marketing, and drove the first wagon herself. Soon she had assistant and wagon masters such as: Walt Garrison, fullback for the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry, head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Gib Lewis, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives and other with Governor Mark White of Texas riding in the front wagon with Jan, sponsored by: Coca-Cola, Wrangler Jeans, Dairy Queen, Texas National Bank Dallas, Texas National Telephone Association, John Deere, American Honda Motor Co, Southwestern Bell Telephone and others. Later in 2002, in Texas, she taught English to Spanish speaking immigrants at night for free, and founded America's Disaster Relief, which aided various disaster-affected areas across the United States, she kicked into high gear, using her past marketing and organizational skills, bringing into play 5 vans with trailers, 10 drivers, supplies, donations and funds, She was instrumental in relocating 100 families [500 people] into homes completely furnished to victims of Forest Fires, Cedar Rapid, IA floods, Boulder Colorado floods and the locals of Western Colorado. With the left-over donations, in 2006 she bought a 750 square foot thrift shop for $1,000.00 in Montrose, Colorado, which expanded to 10,000 square feet, where 100% of the profits went to disaster relief and in 2008 she built a food truck on a 16 ft flat-bed trailer, selling tamales and other items with partner GUMER, volunteering 12 months a year for 7 years, with 100% of the net profits going to American Disaster Relief, from serving areas from Colorado to Florida, Alabama, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Missouri, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, in August 29 2005, where she brought back to her home, now living in Colorado, people who had nothing but the clothes on their backs. She also served at Hurricane Sandy, NY in 2012 when I met her while I was volunteering at Midland Beach, Staten Island, one of the worst hit areas, and stayed in touch since. In 2015 they progressed to a Mobile Kitchen where they no longer needed a commissary where they had to pay to prepare the Tamales and foods, or sleep in truck seats or motel rooms, they had a shower, bed and restroom and kitchen, all with the mission of aid to others. However, in the same year Jan was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 70. Despite that diagnosis, she continued to volunteer and fundraise for several years, until last year 2023, deciding to sell the Mobile Kitchen and cancel all events, still volunteering and fundraising remotely. Her tireless efforts over the years have been an inspiration to many. She attended in her early days, New York Institute of Interior Design – New York, New York, Barbizon School of Modeling before heading off to Saint Petersburg College / University of South Florida. She became a Showroom & Runway model in New York City and Florida and a Ford Agency Model…… She was an Equestrian: riding, driving a team, riding instructor, endurance, cross country. She did Ranch work, managing 30,000 acres: branding cattle, showmanship horses and cattle, team penning…..She holds certifications as: Certified Radio Marketing Consultant – RAB – Dallas, Texas, Marketing and Promotions Event Professional as well as Licensed Real Estate Agent – Texas In the television/radio/film industry, she was: Radio Director of Promotions/Marketing, designed sales packages & promotions; Copywriter; Press releases; Live remote air personality, air voice, co-host of talk shows, interviews; Motivational speaker at seminars, Teacher of marketing classes, Co-writer and co-director of commercials (Ford, 7-Eleven, Coca-Cola); Technical advisor for the movie Lone Star– selected sites, arranged / approved props and costumes, advised on angle and method with film crew/director JAN MARCHED WITH MARTIN LUTHER KING, HUGGED ROSA PARKS.
