Story
The key to living a happier, healthier life is inside us. Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain or our heart, yet we know very little about how it works. In Gut, Giulia Enders shows that rather than the utilitarian and - let's be honest - somewhat embarrassing body part we imagine it to be, it is one of the most complex, important, and even miraculous parts of our anatomy.

Too boring for me and little advice on what to do
Reviewed: 08-24-24
I appreciate the topic and all research behind this book, but for my taste it is too detailed in parts I’m not interested in and too little information on how to improve gut health.

I had listened to many books and meditations from Deepak and although liking most of them, I forgot all content briefly after.
This one is different- it’s simple, concise and applicable.

One of the best „self-help“ books
Reviewed: 02-17-24
This book is just amazing. It has helped me so much to understand my emotions and life challenges and make peace with the lows and highs of life.
I am not a religious person and all the works I read interpreting the bible made me feel distress, except for this one - it brought me faith.
Beautiful work Dr Anita, thank you.

Very honest and “imperfect”, this book offered me comfort, “normality” and a more spiritual connection to our uniqueness. It does not offer a cure to comparisons, but a path and a great sense of not being alone.

Mixed value
Reviewed: 12-07-23
It starts excellent, with profound insights and a compelling story. However it gets confusing from middle to end - lots of mixed concepts, some seem brilliant and others seem like a justification for a doubting company culture enforced by Dalio, contradicting some of his own words.
Even the good parts are difficult to be applied just with the book itself, so I have downloaded the “Principles in Practice” app to give it a try.

Combining his compelling storytelling and humor, Barker explains what hostage negotiation techniques and marital arguments have in common, how an expert con-man lied his way into a twenty-year professional soccer career, and why those holding views diametrically opposed to our own actually have the potential to become our closest, most trusted friends.

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Too anecdotal… and plain boring
Reviewed: 04-25-23
It started in an interesting way but became more and more boring as it evolved.
I couldn’t go beyond the part where the author talks about hamburger and refers to the city of Hamburg as a boring German town that probably no one wants to go to. A respectful author can’t be that ignorant to say such thing.

Too many random ideas, hard to implement
Reviewed: 07-13-22
It probably won’t be my last diet book because it has solved my „issues“, but because I come to the realization that books aren’t a solution.
This one is well intended and has interesting concepts and exercises, but it’s just too many ideas and hard to implement- perhaps as an app it could be ok, not as an audiobook.
