this book feels more like a filler... just unnecessary story to fill the pages to provide the ending of all the characters - this could have been done in War Storm.
it almost felt like forcing readers to buy this one -just so to get the ending for the characters in the series.
what's the point of going back to provide the history of the characters' lineages @ this point? the history of the great great grandparents in the 1st book or even in the prequel is ok..... but not in the 5th/Last book of the series (taking 70% of the book) leaving 30% just to provide the ending of the characters.

A bit of let down

This is not a book to start with but it does fill in some gaps

only okay

I enjoyed the books, it wrapped things up nicely. Since I was looking for *what* the novellas were about and was struggling to find it before purchase, so I'll put it here. The first two are the previously released novellas, Queen Song and Steel Scars.

The first new novella takes place during the events of War Storm and is about a silver woman on the run and a river man in the Disputed lands (or free lands, depending on who you ask), and gives a good outside perspective (they hear about the lightning girl et al in the form of gossip), and you get a good feel for how other people live in this world.

The second new novella is about Evangeline and Elane right after War Storm living with the fall out from the events and trying to build a new life.

The third new novella is the one I was waiting for, taking place a couple months after War Storm when Mare and Cal meet back up.

Interwoven between them all is a historical narrative, telling about the formation and fall of the kingdoms, and ultimately giving what happened to Cal and Mare in the form of a historical narrative.

Overall, I enjoyed them all.

Good Closure

This book gave me the closure that I was hoping for. There was so much left unanswered in the last book and I felt incomplete. Thank you Victoria because I need to know with certainty that things would work out. It’s always good to hear / read that your two favorite characters (Mare and Cal) got to be together in the end in spite of all the war and fighting. I love this series!

I truly loved the Red Queen series. I couldn't put the books down. then, I bought this book (physical and Audible). I could not stay focused. It was drawn out, long, confusing... it just didn't make sense to me. The author should have stopped at the last book in the series. The only parts of this that I enjoyed were Evangeline, Mare, and Cal's "journal" entries. Even at that, I didn't learn anything new about them. I'm disappointed. I will give credit to the Audible, though, because I loved hearing the different characters.

Not nearly as good as past books
